HOW TO OVERCOME THE FEAR OF IELTS SPEAKING TEST

Speaking is most easy module in IELTS. It is a face to face conversation with examiner. In this test you and the examiner will be in a room and examiner will put questions to you. The test is divided in three parts and it lasts for 14-15 minutes. It is same for academic and general training students. In spite, this is the easiest test still some students find it difficult because of the fear of talking with the examiner and lose their score in this test. 1: LOOK AT THE EXAMINER’S FACE

Observing the face expressions of examiner would definitely help you to make the proper understanding of the question. Reading the lips of him while listening will provide you clarity in the communication. Moreover, it will also help you to mould your answers by seeing his facial expressions as if you think that the examiner is not satisfied or happy with your answer you can change in order to impress him.

2: ASK TO REPEAT

Whenever you face difficulty in understanding any question or you didn’t heard properly what the examiner asked you, don’t hesitate to ask an examiner to repeat. But remember you should ask it in a decent way and you are not supposed to ask like this in all the questions.

3: SOUND CONFIDENT

As it’s a face-to-face interview so there you may get stressed and nervous but that may not depict in your speaking tone and you should know how to tackle your nervousness. If you sound low in your speaking interview that can have a debilitating effect on your ability to convey your thoughts in a foreign language, so always try to speak confidently.

NOW the question is how you can sound confident even if you are feeling nervous.

To overcome this problematic situation tries to follow these tips:

–  always keep a smile on your face it may create a relaxing environment conductive to communication.

– try to make a proper ending of the sentence and maintain an even tone of voice throughout your speaking.

– make sure examiner can easily understand your speech for that reason try to improve your speech quality. Avoid long pauses as well as phrases like “Um”,”like” and “you know” as they do not add any meaning to a discussion. Along with try to reduce the usage of placeholder words that can refer to objects or people whose names do not exist or are unknown such as “Henry, Peter and Tom”.

– Speak slowly, which indicates that you have a solid grasp of what you are talking about.

– try to give your answers in an organized way and improve the quality of your speech.

4: SPEAK UP

Remember during the IELTS Speaking exam you need to talk much more than examiner does. The way to do this is to develop your answers. For example you get question. Do you have brother or sisters? Don’t say no. I don’t. You could say, I am only a child but I have cousins. When I was little we spent lot of time together. So always remember, you shouldn’t give point to point answer in cue card. You need to elaborate it to cover up the all build points.
