Sample Answer –

Statistics of mobile phone use among the population of anyone during 1996 to 2002 is given in the line graph. The data details the use of men and women separately and both sexes combined.

Around 1500 men and 1600 women used cell phones in 1996. There had been a slow and steady increase in its use in the two years that followed, reaching 1700 (men) and 1800 (women). Next year found a drop in the use of men, reaching the initial figure, but, thereafter climbed somehow steadily to reach about 1800 in the final year. The two years after 1998 found a decline in the case of women, reaching the initial status, after which it improved steadily to overtake men and register 1900 in 2002. The combined figure remained almost steady during 1999-2000 due to the continued decrease in the case of females during that period.

To conclude, there had been fluctuations in cell phone use over the given 7 years and the use of males and females, individually, and both genders together, followed a more or less same pattern.

General Writing Task 1:-

Your state has a liquor prohibition. You feel it is unacceptable. Write a letter to a leading newspaper editor presenting your arguments against liquor prohibition.

In your letter

  • Explain the situation
  • Say what actions you would like the newspaper to take
  • Describe negatives to convince the newspaper editor

Sample Answer –

Dear Sir,

The objective of writing this letter might surprise you because I am trying to make a point that is more or less termed as a taboo in our state. Our state has regulated a liquor prohibition over the decades. I believe that it is unacceptable considering the current scenario. Therefore, your support may give voice to the screams of unheard community.

The purpose of liquor prohibition gets defeated itself for many reasons. Let me describe them in short: A) more liquor compared to other states is sold illegally. This gives birth to bootleggers; they are felons and propel a rise in crime rate. B) Absence of a thriving nightlife and liquor shop deters multinational companies from doing business, and discourages tourism. Banning liquor shops would discourage them to settle in our state permanently or even temporarily. Furthermore, illegal selling of liquor is linked to loss to exchequer directly. Considering these factors, I do not see any compelling reasons for the government to uphold the liquor prohibition.

Please publish such arguments for ending liquor prohibition if you deem this appeal responsible. I hope to hear from you.

Yours faithfully,

Neena gupta

Writing Task 2 (AC+GT):-

Changing city, state or country for perusing university education is quite common nowadays, and with this, students are often found confused making a choice between the university dormitory and an apartment in the community for them to live. What would you prefer and why?

Sample Answer –

Globalization demands employees who are specialized in their fields and this has increased the demand for university education in the native country and abroad. Whether to stay at a university hostel or outside the campus is a matter of confusion for some students. Although, each has its benefits, I prefer to stay at a university hostel.

A major advantage of living at a university hostel is its proximity to the university. People living in such a facility will have easy access to all establishments associated with the university such as libraries and laboratories. Most major universities of the world have libraries functioning round the clock. A university hostel provides accommodation only for students. This means that everyone living there has a common purpose. This gives students the wonderful opportunity to socialize with their peer groups, who hail from various social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. By staying together the learners can easily organize various academic and extra-curricular activities.

Yet another reason for selecting a university lodging and boarding is the considerable financial benefits. For example, students who stay outside will have to spend more time, effort and money for traveling on a day-to-day basis. Besides getting a part-time job within the campus is a bonus. By and large (=generally), hostel stay is more economical.

In brief, choosing a university accommodation is a blessing in several ways. Academically, socially and economically, it is more beneficial than staying at a faraway place. Above all, when one looks back at the student days, perhaps year later, it would cherish the memories of the days spent with friends at the hostel and nostalgia might haunt them.

IELTS Speaking full Interview

PART – 1 Intro Part

What is your name?

My name is Dalip Kumar.

Can I see your ID?

Here it is! This is my passport.

Where are you from?

I belong to Jaipur which is in the state of Rajasthan.

What do you do?

I’ve recently completed my graduation in Business Administration, and at the moment, I work for Infosys as a business consultant.

Can you describe your work?

I interact with clients to find the right solution to the problems that they’ve identified in the request for proposal. As a part of the request for proposal (RFP) process, I travel to the client location/office to understand their business environment, do a detailed study of their business operations; post this I’ve detailed sessions/workshops with the clients to finalize our approach on implementing their business processes at our offshore/onshore location.

Do you like dreams?

Yes, I do because only in dreams you don’t apply your logic but it’s your dream that dictates you. Moreover, in dreams one could do all unimaginable things which may be quite far from reality.

Do you remember some of dreams?

Yes, I do. Not all of them but a few of them I remember. I also remember some of the dreams that I used to have as a child. I used to have wild imaginations like I had wings attached to my back and I was all out like a bird and flying from one place to another.

Do you think dreams have meanings?

To some extent, I correlate dreams to our imagination and there’s in fact a strong relation between what you imagine and what you’ve in dreams. I’m not an expert in analyzing or studying dreams but my rough assumption suggests me that it-s a pure reflection of what we think day in, day out (=continuously, repeatedly).

PART – 2  Cue Card

Speak about a room of your house that is special to you.

You should say

  • What the purpose of that room is
  • What facilities are available there
  • How much time you spend there

Why do you like that room?

Sample Answer:-

I have an affinity towards every room in my house, but the room I have a special attachment for is our drawing room. It is a big room with seating arrangements for more than 20 people. It has a television, a music system, and a telephone table. The carpet area of the room is approximately 300 square feet. It has two windows, an attractive Plaster of Paris ceiling, and optimum lighting. I like this room because it is the face of our house. We received and welcome our neighbours, guests, and relatives in this room. We pass our time with them, and share our warmth with them in the same room. This room connects us to the rest of the world, because here we watch TV, listen to the radio, read the newspapers, and even attend phone calls. All my family members sit together every night after dinner, share our day-to-day experience with each other, and nurture our strong family bonds in the drawing room. To me, my family is like a team. In today’s era, when every member is an important part of the family, this is the place where we constantly enhance our warmth and feelings towards each other, and enjoy life as a family, in the true sense of the word. We have been living in the same house for many years, now. I have shared all the ups and downs of my life with my family members and sought guidance and support from them when required, sitting in our drawing room. This room has been witness to all the events of my life, and my family members’ lives. I can say that this room is not only a part of my house, but also an important part of my life. This room has been witness to my graduation party, my grandfather-s condolence meeting, my daughter-s first steps and first words, and many other memorable events that have happened in my family. This room is indeed very special to me.

PART – 3 Discussion

What do you do in that room?

Well, in that room, me and my family get together for watching television and share our feelings with one another while talking on different matters and another thing is that whenever my family members go outside from this room, I sit alone because the environment of this room is quite tranquil.

What do others do in that room?

As in have told you earlier, in drawing room mostly my family members come for watching TV and they also relish tea with one another while sitting together.

What changes do you want in that room?

If I get an opportunity to renovate my drawing room then I want to change the color of walls. Although the walls of drawing room are painted but the color is not attractive that is a reason that I tend to make is effective by dint of changing color combination.
