Writing Task 2 (AC+GT)

As most foreign aid often benefits the door more than the receiver, developing countries should refuse to repay their debts. Do you agree?

Sample Answer:-

Repayment of loans taken by borrowers, be they individuals or nations, is obligatory and mandatory. Rich nations have been lending money to poor ones for several decades ones from loan transactions. However, this essay does not support the argument that poor nations must refuse to repay the money that they have borrowed from rich nations.

On the other hand, loans benefit the donor nations more than the receiving ones is inherent in the process of lending. For example, loans advanced by the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, are under the control of developed countries. Poor nations receive huge loans for projects proposed by these financial agencies, many of which cater to the needs of the donors themselves. Moreover, developing nations spend huge amounts of this borrowed money to import machinery and arms ammunition from developed nations.

On the other hand, all these reasons are not enough to argue ethically that loans taken should not e paid back. A loan is a loan, and irrespective of how it was spent, it should be paid back. To maintain good relations between the donor and the receiving nations, conditions of agreement must be followed religiously. To abide by laws is vital for the very existence of mankind and, as such, a debt should not turn out to be a bed debt.

Having looked at both the sides of the issue, it can be safely argued that since coexistence is the buzzword today, refusing to repay borrowed money is morally indefensible. It will also cause difficulties in getting help in times of need.

IELTS Speaking full Interview

PART 1 – Intro Part

What is your full name?

Hello, I am Rajiv Bhatia.

Can I see you ID?

With pleasure, this is my passport.

Where are you from?

I’m from Bangalore.

Do you work or study?

I am a student.

What subject (s) are you studying?

I am doing B.A. degree in choreography/dance.

Why did you choose to study that subject?

I find it so amazing that how beautifully one can express emotions through dance and I’m inclined to learn more about this form of art.

Was that an easy choice to make?

Not really as my parents were not really happy. They wanted me to take some course which could help me earn livelihood late in my career. They believed that such a degree concentration would leave me jobless in the future so there was some opposition but somehow I convinced them. I will have to prove my worst post my studies. Let’s see what happens.

Do you like your subject? (why/why not)

Yes, it’s very challenging, as one has to choose the right kind of music that would accompany the dance, complex movements to entertain the audience, assist with costume design, lighting and other artistic aspect of a show.

Do you often use a dictionary?

Yes, till date you will find a pocket oxford dictionary in my laptop bag, it travels with me wherever I go.

Do you prefer to use an electronic dictionary or a dictionary made of paper?

I prefer using dictionary made of paper probably because I grew up using that during school and college time. The electronic dictionary is of no use if you are in an area where internet connectivity is poor. But I foresee that the dictionary made of paper will be out of the market in near future because students download the dictionary app on the phone and it offers the best possible convenience barring only the downside of connectivity issue on occasions.

If someone gave you a dictionary as a gift, how would you feel?

I would be very happy to receive a dictionary as a gift. I love English language and I know how hard it is without the use of lexical resource. Therefore, I gave a lot of importance to the dictionary. Candidly speaking, I never thought of such a question but after this question I feel that why ever I wasn’t gifted a dictionary.

Do you like rainy days? (Why, why not)

I enjoy rainy days. The cloudier sky and the cool wind with driving rain is something that takes back to my childhood. There’s all sort of a different rejuvenating weather in which one enjoys the fragrance of soil and the blooming of peacocks. It cleans the dusty atmosphere and the entire city looks neat and clean except the land. My imaginary bent of mind enjoys the beauty of nature being drenched in rains. Rainy days allows me to feel happy kindle within me. A rainy day has good effect on the soil. It’s a heaven on earth.

Does it rain much in your hometown?

It rarely rains all day or even all that heavily. It remains dry during the day and then it heats up which eventually allows having some showers. This process cools down the place. Nature gifts us a very fabulous weather after downpour, one can enjoy the breeze and earthy fragrance. The only downside of raining in Bangalore is the traffic gets utterly out of hand because our infrastructure is woefully inadequate (= in a manner expressing sorrow). It is a common sight that roads flood everywhere and sometimes some areas become impossible.

Would to like to have more rain or less rain (in your hometown)

I believe anything in extremes is not good, so I wouldn’t want more or less rains in my hometown. However, if I talk about the rain in the India context, we’ve a designed time cycle for the monsoon unlike other countries where it rains round the year. I wish it would have been much better if it had rained all year round in India.

What do you usually do when it rains?

I usually sit by the window with a cup of a hot coffee listening to my favorite music. Or sometimes even I would go out to get drenched. I would enjoy by jumping like a kid.

PART 2 – Cue Card

Describe a comic actor who is popular in your country.

You should say,

  • Who the actor is
  • How you know him/her
  • What kind of person he/she is and explain why he/she is popular in your country

Sunil Grover is a television stand-up comedian and extreme comedian. He’s best known for his time during ‘the Kapil Sharma show’. Some of the TV characters of him like guthi, Dr. Mashoor gulati, and rinku bhabhi are extremely lovable in which he has really displayed a remarkable sense of humor. The TV viewers love and cannot fail to watch his hilarious role.

He has little known of public in the beginning and I guess the real start he got in his career through ‘the kapil Sharma show’ where his talent touched all the heights of success. He played various roles in some Hindi movies before. I always love watching ‘the Kapil Sharma show’ and he is one of the lead characters of this show. Gradually I started liking his acting and a sense of humor, in fact, more than my favorite Kapil Sharma.

Sunil Grover is a very popular with his comedy in my country nowadays. His comic timing is very simple but entertainingly hilarious. It’s very tough job to make people laugh at your own expense. He’s very observant about things around him and uses the very same scenario to create hilarious acts on stage.

PART 3 – Discussion

Do comedians earn a lot of money?

Well, it varies from comedian to comedian. Those who are lucky definitely mint. It’s handsome enough to put engineers and finance consultants to shame. The amount of career satisfaction and love from audience is tremendous. There are some things even your MasterCard can’t buy at same time we cannot ignore the fact that there are comedians who are still struggling to get somewhere.

Do you think these people deserve to earn so much money?

Yes, they deserve to earn a good amount of money as I personally feel to make somebody laugh is a very tough job, to create a comedy on the spot, is well informed as in what is going around them and others. It’s really some kind of a job but it’s really some kind of a job that requires a lot dedication. We believe that it’s an easy job but it’s not since the artist has to prepare and needs to create eccentric ways to make the audience laugh. In that process, sometimes they even don’t spare themselves also.

Do may young people (or, children) try to imitate film stars (e.g., imitate their lifestyle, clothes, etc.  ? (If yes, how, why?)

Yes, children and youngsters do try to imitate film starts. They try coping the clothing style as it’s not really possible to imitate the lifestyle of film stars. Credit goes to the fashion industry to make it possible for youngsters to imitate the film stars as clothes are available at a reasonable price. Maybe they feel some sort of unexplained connection by doing that. It’s sort of an innocent and mindless passion of children doing that. By doing that, they see themselves in a different kind of an imaginary world where they get everything what they want.

What forms of entertainment are most popular in your country?

There are several forms of entertainment available in my country, such as live concerts, theater drama, movies, reality shows, TV and games. Mostly people go to cinemas, watch plays or enjoy life events. In the past, we didn’t have many avenues for entertainment but these days you get everything to entertain yourself. Recently we’ve seen many people enjoy watching games. A classic example is IPL. It’s been over a decade or so that there’s a 20-20 Indian premier league (IPL). It’s a tournament of cricket where ten teams featuring all Indian ‘A’ and “b” grade cricketers with the combination of international cricketers entertain Indians is almost all parts of India during summer. It’s an electrifying atmosphere while watching this tournament live.

Do you think men and women have different tastes in entertainment?

Well, most of the time- ‘yes’. Women enjoy  going to exhibitions, shopping, movies or dinning out while men enjoy sitting at home watching sports, reality shows, comedy shows or action films. Maybe, I’m slightly biased in my opinion but I guess this is how it happens. So, pardon me if I look like a misogynist (a man who hates women) but these are just my assumptions and I could be wrong as well. But who knows what the future unfolds? We may have a paradigm shift (= a fundamental change in approach) any time.

What kinds of entertainment do young people like?

Young people are mostly into movies, music concerts or hanging out with friends at coffee shops. However, these days gaming is also taken not only a form of competition but also a form of entertainment. I’ve seen the youth enjoying various games and they make all efforts to attend various national and international tournaments. I see it as a very much positive development, and it’s so exhilarating to see that the youth is giving a high priority on the fitness and games.

What kinds of entertainment do children like?

Kids enjoy playing video games, watching television or internet games. They do enjoy movies, too. Apart from these traditional media of entertainments, they love to play indoor games. Kids also love going to water parks and they love water rides very much.
