Academic Writing Task 1:-
The line graph shows car access in Great Britain during the period from 1971 to 2007. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Sample Answer –
The line graph is an amusing study of households in Great Britain, which had access to one car or more and those which did not own a car, during a period of 36 years from 1971 and 2007. An overall glance at the graph shows tremendous growth in car access in the country.
The outstanding feature of the graph is that in 1971 the ratio of households which had to no access to a car was as high as 48%. Over the years, however, things improved and this rate started steadily declining, although with light fluctuations, throughout. In the final year, 2007, only around 24% household did not own a car, a commendable reduction to exactly 50%. The ratio of those with one car (44%), remained more or less same. However, houses with 2 cars experienced regular growth from 8% to 27%. Homes with 3 more cars were rare in 1971, a negligible 1%. From around 1977, this rate started picking up slowly and finally reached about 6%.
In concluding, it can be noted that not only the rate of households with no car reduced substantially, the number of houses with two cars found considerable growth.
General Writing Task 1:-
You are a girl and being chased by someone on a regular basis. You reported this incident to Police Department but no remedy has been given to this issue. Write a letter to the Police Commissioner about this failure.

Dear Visa Officer, I am writing this letter to draw your attention about an oversight that has been committed from your team member. I lodged a student visa application with Delhi Post and unfortunately, it got denied. My visa application number is 2015/0006985.
I applied for a Master degree in Engineering at Monash University for July 2015 intake. I gathered all the required documents as per instructions laid out on your website. I was startled to learn that my application got denied because I did not have enough funds to support my expenses. It is clear oversight of the visa officer because all my costs are supported by means of an educational loan worth AUD $50,000.00 issued by Citi Bank. It seems that the case officer failed to note the bank sanction and disbursement letter. Otherwise this would not have happened. Therefore, I request you to assess my application once again and grant me a student visa because no other reason for denying than this one is mentioned in the refusal letter.
I look forward to having a positive response in the form of visa grant.

Writing Task 2 (AC+GT):-
Plans, which are to design prisons for learning and working, with bigger cells containing computers that will enable study and communication, have been criticized for trying to turn prisons into “holiday camps” and “wasting taxpayers’ money”. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer:-
In an attempt to make punishments more humane, civilized nations are trying to introduce several reforms to prevent criminals from repeating their crimes. This essay is of the view that, while law-abiding citizens spend an enormous amount of money to pay for their education and training, spending huge sums of tax payers’ money for educating criminals cannot be fully justified.
Most importantly, making sure that criminals do not repeat their criminals after completion their tenure in prison is significant. As many become criminals due to lack of opportunities, equipping them with some useful skills to lead a productive life after their release is a good idea. Providing computers to prisoners seems to be a bright idea, but the snag is that they may be misused by them.
Yet another pertinent issue is that if governments decide to provide prisoners with educational facilities, efforts must be made to turn industrial training centres. In that case, prisons will have their own sources of revenue. If it works well, it can be considered as a corrective measure.
In contrast, how much money societies should spend for the rehabilitation of prisoners is* a topic for discussion. Spending more for antisocial elements than for law abiding citizens is hard to justify. For instance, making a prison cell look like a major educational institution with computer facilities is a mockery of democracy so long as every ordinary citizen has* to work hard to pay for them.
To put it briefly, those who commit offences against innocent people in society must get a clear message that they cannot have an enjoyable time in prison at the expense of taxpayers.

My name is Priya Sheth.

Where are you from?
I live in Rajkot which is around 300 kilometers away from Ahmadabad city.
Do you work or study?
I own a small business of ethic attires for women. I started this business not long ago and it’s growing by leaps and bounds (=rapidly) these days.
What do you do?
I design clothes as per the latest trend of fashion. My specialty lies in designing the women‘s day-to-day Indian attires and for special wedding collection. Also, I’m trying my hands on kids wears as well but it’s at the infant stage at the moment.
Why did you choose this job?
I completed my fashion designing course two years back. I found designing clothes was a very interesting job and it suited my person. I’ve knack of designing various types of clothes so I thought why not I pursue my passion and career together.
What will you do in the future?
I want to become a successful entrepreneur, and the world must know my work and appreciate it. I think globally and I foresee my stuff being sold in every part of the world sooner.
What color do you like? Why?
Being an apparel designer, I love all the colors as long as they go well with any combination. But personally I love white and pink color the most.
Do you like chocolate?
Yes, I like chocolates. My favorite chocolates are Bounty, Mars and Diary Milk.
Did you also like chocolates as a child?
Whenever I saw bars of chocolates, it always salivated (=secrete saliva, especially in anticipation of food). My mother always rational my chocolate eating but I was my dad’s girl so he would buy me chocolates of my choice and both of us ensured that my mother didn’t know about it. I had too much of chocolates as a child.

There are a number of public holidays in my country that can be categorized as national, religious and cultural. People of my country enjoy almost all holidays in different ways. Here I would like to talk about the Independence Day celebration that takes place in my city on every 15th August. This is the day when our country gained her freedom from the British rule in 1947.
The day is celebrated at many places in my city but the main celebration takes place in the Capital of my country in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister and the President begin flag hoisting ceremony followed by their speeches. After that, military officers are given medals for their special contribution to the country and then various companies of army march on the road near the Red Fort. Most people of my country watch this event live on television at home. However, I go the main celebration venue in my city that takes place at a lake near my home where the Chief Minister and the Mayor Salute Indian flag early in the morning and then we all sing our national anthem. After that, we see various cultural programs indicating the spirit of patriotism and glory of our nation. Some sports competitions are also organized in the afternoon where the honorable the sunset and then a separate session of fireworks is held where many spectators of my area come to see the event. I used to take part in some sports activities like hockey and cricket before a few years. However, now I go to the venue only to see the event and the celebration.

Some people say that there are too many public holidays in your country. Do you agree with them?
I live in a multicultural country and the country is unity in diversity. We believe in giving respect to all cultures and religions and hence the extent of public holidays is more compared to other countries of the world. I support this notion to allow those who want to have a holiday on their important religious days. Hence, I do admit that the extent of public holidays is high but we don’t have a five-day working week. The work pattern in my country is six-day working week and therefore we actually work. The work more number of days compared to people in other countries.
What are the other important public holidays celebrated in your country?
Apart from the Independence Day, we celebrated other national holidays like the Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanti and other birthdays of prominent freedom fighters like Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and so on. We also celebrate festivals like Diwali, Navratri, Idd, Onam, Pongal, Christmas and so on.
Do all people in your country celebrate all these holidays?
All people take interest in the celebration of all holidays in general. However, the interest level differs in religious holidays. Here, those who belong to the religion celebrate the holidays with great involvement but people of other religion don’t take that active an interest. This is understandable because all people are not aware of rituals and traditions of other religions.
What is the important of public holidays?
Public holidays are very important. They give us a break from our work or studied. Their celebration also increases the importance of that day and the vent in our mind. In addition, this brings people of similar cultures closer to each other and makes them feel united. What is more, leisure industries like cinema, recreation, holidays, restaurants, amusement and hospitality get a boost in their business on such days. This is good sign for a growing economy like India.
Is it important to celebrate anniversaries or special days?
According to me, special days and anniversaries are milestones in the journey of life. Often when we look back, we remember these milestones more than anything else. Hence, it is very important to celebrate such days in order to make them memorable for the future. In addition, their celebration also gives us energy and inspiration to move ahead in the journey of life.
What do you prefer more, five day working week or six day working week and why?
I personally prefer five-day working week because we often have personal, social and family commitments. Many of those commitments are essential addressed. Now, if we get only one holiday per week, it becomes difficult for us to balance all aspects of life.
Do you think people/government waste too much time, energy and money on celebration of festivals or public holidays?
At times it seems true that governments waste money on celebration of public holidays such events are celebrated with great pomp in which the government has to spend lot of money on both the celebration and other administrative issues like safety and security. I think some part of the money allocated to these celebrations should be diverted towards essential requirements. People on the other hand also waste money to show-off their status in the society. But this doesn’t happen often, as the wastage of money and material may be restricted with proper management of celebration.
