Model Answer:-
The sales at this small restaurant during the week of October 7 to 13th followed a fairly set pattern from Monday to Friday, and then showed notable shift on the weekend. The lunch and dinner sales during the week peaked on Friday and then dipper down as the weekend set in.

During the week of October 7-14th, the lunch sales averaged at approximately $2,400. The highest lunch sales occurred on Friday, and the lowest occurred on Sunday. Sunday’s lunch sales were approximately $1,000 less than the average lunch sales during the rest of the week.

Dinner sales, which generated at least $1,000 to $1,500 more a day than lunch sales, also remained steady during the week. Just like the lunch sales, the dinner sales peak on Friday and dipped down for the weekend.

Excluding Wednesday and Thursday, the lunch and dinner sales from October 7-11 rose gradually until the end of the business week. Midweek, on Wednesday and Thursday, the sales were slightly lower than they were on Tuesday.

According to the sales report, this restaurant has a steady lunch and dinner crowd. The most profitable day during the second week of October was Friday. Sunday, was the least profitable day, with the full day’s sales totaling/totalling less than the Friday dinner sales. These numbers are reflective of a restaurant that is located in a business/financial district where business hours are Monday through Friday.

General Writing Task 1:-

You have a friend who is about to enter university, and he wants you to advise him on which subject to specialize in – history, in which he is very interested, or computer science, which offers better job prospects.

Sample Answer:-

Dear……………,
I am enthralled to receive your letter telling me that you have passed your higher secondary exam with high rank. My hearty congratulations.

Knowing you very well the way only I do, I can understand your dilemma in choosing the right discipline for your university education. I don’t really think that I am competent enough to advise you in this matter. But since you value my opinions, I may make an attempt. Although many pupils find history an uninteresting subject and look down up on it, I am greatly fascinated by it myself. As you may know, history is not for the chicken-hearted. It has depth unlike any other subject. What is more, any good scholar should have an in-depth knowledge about how civilization has evolved. However, as a breadwinner, I reckon, computer science would be a better option. I know you would be disappointed at my suggestion. But, after all, friend, all it takes to study history is to go through good books at your leisure.

Do let me know what you have chosen.

Love and regards,

Sincerely,

Name

Writing Task 2:-

To play a leader’s role is a difficult task, so one should prefer to follow a leader than being a leader himself. Do you agree or disagree to this statement?

Sample Answer:-
Not everybody can be a leader, nor is being a leader an easy affair. A leader should have a number of leadership qualities, besides being charismatic. However, the self-esteem one derives from being a leader cannot be achieved by being a follower. For that reason, this essay does not agree to the view that the role of a follower is preferable to that of a leader.

First of all, one needs leadership qualities to become a leader. These include having a vision, self-motivation, the ability to motivate others, excellent communication skills, a high level of emotional intelligence and so on. A leader should be prepared to shoulder big responsibility. Besides, one must have the real ambition to rise above mediocrity. For instance, Gandhi was the pioneer liberating his followers from the clutches of a great empire through non-violence. A leader is an achiever, although he may have to take pains in the process.

Moreover, how much one is committed to the cause and how far the cause is the priority of the leader are important. The success or failure of an organisation rests largely on the dedication of its Chief Executive. The priority of a good leader is the welfare of others. In addition, looking at every successful movement, whether it is a liberation struggle or a new approach to business, the presence of a leader capable of guiding others is a conspicuous feature.

In short, leadership is challenging; to follow somebody else is a path that easy going people choose. However, it is always the right of individuals to choose whether she/he wants to become a leader or follow a leader.

I asked certain questions to myself and didn’t find out a good reasoning.

There comes the wisdom of my father! I shared my confusion. He said only one thing, “Son, whatever your heart says, do it or you will regret forever.” Additionally, he supported my decision to study abroad. In fact, he said that he had always wanted to study in North America but he couldn’t do it as my grandfather had not enough funds to support his education. In other way, he wanted me to fulfil his incomplete dream, too. After this consultation, I decided to keep aside my decision of studying at NMIMS and started applying to university located either in Canada or in the USA.
