5 things that affect the IELTS band scores even of bright students

It is commonly said that the result of IELTS is unpredictable as sometimes shining students don’t get their expected band score and most of the time either the organization conducting the exam or the destiny of student is blamed. But this is not the fact neither the exam organization nor the luck is responsible for the deduction of the scores. So who is responsible for this deduction? To find the answer let’s see 5 things that affect the IELTS band scores even of bright students.

1) Nervousness – Exam is a nightmare for everyone and even the most mature and confident students don’t get the way out of it and get nervous during an exam. In IELTS there is often a lot of pressure on the candidate to score good scores. Big score is important for the student in order to get admission into their dream university or to grab a job opportunity in their chosen profession and company. These things create a stress on the mind of the candidate. Moreover, appearing in IELTS is quite expensive as the student have to pay for course books,  training fees and of course the fees for exam itself all these things create extra pressure on mind to clear the exam in first attempt.

2) Learning answers by heart – It is a common setup of the aspirants to memorize the answers as it is considered to be the best way to clear the exam. Students learn various cue topics, essays and letters or reports and think that they will get the same questions in the exam and they can repeat the answers in speaking and writing tests. In IELTS exam it is a rare chance that the question get repeated which means that the answers prepared by you is merely the wastage of time. Besides, if you encounter any new topic or question in the exam you will get confused and panic as a result the answer delivered by you will be illogical and inappropriate.

3) Inadequate time management – Mismanagement of time is another reason of getting the scores deducted. In the IELTS Writing test most of the candidates often run out of time and are not able to complete the given task. The another case is seen that students start writing without reading the question properly and without thinking about it or making any plan in order to save some time. As a result they get out of matter in the mid of the task. This is the case with Reading test also where candidates fail to skim read each text before they approach the questions before they think it will save them time. It doesn’t!

4) Lack of information and effective techniques – IELTSexam is not merely about testing your vocabulary and grammar skills. To get high score you should know the exam pattern and structure, time allowed for each part, approach to different types of questions and how to answer them effectively. So you should be well prepared for each and every thing just doing practice tests is not enough.

 5) Using Band 6 language – All the IELTS aspirants want to score high but they don’t use the vocabulary and language accordingly. For example a test taker who wants to get band 7 or 7.5, but don’t make good use of language and commit mistakes in spelling, word formation, sentence structure and verb tense errors will lose them points. So you should demonstrate the language and other factors according to your requirement or you will lose your scores.
