In order to produce photographs from a digital camera, three pieces of equipment are needed: the camera, computer and a printer.

In the first part of the process, the image is recorded by the digital camera using a smart card. The image is then downloaded onto a computer. Here the image can be shown on the screen and edited. The picture may be cut so that less interesting parts are removed, and the quality of the picture can be improved. In addition, the sizing of the picture can be changed so that it is larger or smaller.

When the editing has been completed, the picture can be transmitted in three different ways. It could be sent to other people electronically in an e-mail, or it could be stored on the computer itself or on a CD.

Alternatively, the image can be sent to a printer for printing on photographic paper. The image may be printed either in colour or in black and white in order to produce the finished photograph on paper. Overall, the diagram shows that this process is carried out in three main stages, using the camera, the computer and the printer.
