The graph below shows the increase in capacity of electricity generation from different types of renewable sources in Continent A, between 2008 and 2018. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart shows the proportion of different types of renewable energy and the total gigawatt capacity added each year in Continent A, between 2008 and 2018. The types of power included in the graph are solar power, wind power, hydropower and ‘other’. What this ‘other’ consists of exactly is not specified, but these renewables are presumably so proportionately small that they are not considered individually.
The added capacity for renewable energy increased dramatically over this ten-year period. In 2008 it was a total of about 15 gigawatts. This figure steadily rose on an annual basis to reach 100 gigawatts in 2018. Initially hydropower was the dominant form, and in 2008 and 2009 it made up more than half of the renewable types. However, the use of hydropower, though consistent, did not grow as much as other forms of energy.
In 2008 hydropower accounted for around 8 gigawatts of the total capacity, and this doubled by 2012 when it reached around 16 gigawatts, but it finally settled down to around 25 gigawatts in 2018. In 2008, there was so little capacity of solar power, it might as well have been included in ‘other’. However, it is the one form of energy that grew the most, accounting for 40 gigawatts of the total electricity generated in 2018. Wind power consistently had the largest capacity increases over the ten-year period, with solar energy only overtaking it in 2018. ‘Other’ types of energy doubled over the period, but they are insignificant when compared to the other three big players.
