Analysis of the 3 pie-charts depicting electoral support for four main political parties in just over a year, dating from one month before the June 2010 election, shows that electoral support fluctuated for all parties to a greater or lesser extent, throughout the given period.

The conservations who maintained a sizeable majority for the first 7 months of period under analysis, accounted for between nearly a half to well over a third of voters’ support in the entire period. It is to be noted however, that support for the Conservations declined to over a third, 12 months after the June 2010 election despite support for the Conservations having initially gained 6 months after the election.

Another party that showed little fluctuation in electoral support in the initial 7 month period under analysis, was the Green Party. During the period the party maintained a constant 10% of electoral support. However, this dropped by 50% to only 5%, 12 months after the June 2010 election,

The only party to see significant gains in voters’ support over the 13-month period, was the Labour party. Maintaining around quarter of the electoral vote from one month before the June 10th election to 6 months after the election, support for the Labour party suddenly rose to well over a third, 12 months after the June 2010 election.

During the 13-month period, the only party to witness a steady drop in electoral support, was the Liberal Democrat party. One month before the election, support for the party accounted for nearly a quarter of the electorate (19%). This declined sharply to only 10% of the electorate, six months after the election, and then dropped to under 8%, 12 months after the election.

The greatest fluctuation occurred in the number of the electorate who were classified as ‘undecided’. Initially accounting for only 4% of the electorate one month before the June 2010 election, this figure rose to 10%, 6 months after the election, increasing dramatically to a quarter, 12 months after the June 2010 election. It would seem from the figures that support for the Lib-Dem/Conservative coalition declined after the election and numbers of ‘undecided’ voters increased possibly due to dissatisfaction with the government in power.
