SAMPLE ANSWER

The bar chart shows average Australian water consumption in selecting cities for the last year, while the pie charts shows how water was used in Australia for last year.

The three highest consumers of water were the cities Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide with 300, 250 and about 240 kilolitres per property respectively as an annual average. This perhaps reflects the hotter climate of these cities. Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra used less water with 200, 150 and about 140 kilolitres per property respectively as an annual average. This perhaps reflects the more temperate climate of these cities.

The largest use for water in Australia last years was for agriculture, which took up over two thirds of uses at 67%. The next largest usage was by households (9%) water supply, sewage and drainage (7%) and water used for electricity and gas supply (7%). The rest was used by manufacturing (4%), other industries (4%) and mining (2%).

It can clearly be seen that water supply affects most of the key parts of Australian life and industry, but the most severely affected sector in a shortage would be agriculture.
