Academic Writing Task 1:-
The pie charts show the main reasons for migration to and from the UK in 2007.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Sample Answer:-
The pie charts illustrate the primary reasons that people came to and left the UK in 2007. At first glance it is clear that the main factor influencing this decision was employment.
Having a definite job accounted for 30 per cent of immigration to the UK, and this figure was very similar for emigration, at 29%. A large number of people, 22%, also emigrated because they were looking for a job, though the proportion of people entering the UK for this purpose was noticeably lower at less than a fifth.
Another major factor influencing a move to the UK was for formal study, with over a quarter of people immigrating for this reason. However, interestingly, only a small minority, 4%, left for this.
The proportions of those moving to join a family member were quite similar for immigration and emigration, at 15% and 13% respectively. Although a significant number of people (32%) gave ‘other’ reasons or did not give a reason why they emigrated, this accounted for only 17% with regards to immigration.
General Writing Tasks 1:-
Your friend from overseas is coming to visit you next month.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter,
● tell them what they need to bring
● tell them what they will be doing during the time they are visiting
● warn them about some things that might be challenging
Sample Answer:-
Hey Sarah,
I’m so happy you are coming to visit me next month and wanted to give you some important details about your stay here in Ho Chi Minh City.
Before you come, make sure that you have the correct visa or you’ll have problems at the airport. You’ll also want to bring some high quality mosquito repellent. If you aren’t protected, the mosquitos will eat you alive out here. These are the only things you’ll really need, aside from the things you would normally bring.
There are so many things for us to do when you arrive. We’ll be spending the first few days in the city, but after that we can explore other parts of the country. Vietnam is a beautiful place, with so much to see and experience. I know you’ll enjoy your time here.
With that said, there is something that I want to warn you about. The way people drive in this country is absolutely insane. It’s every man for himself on the road and nobody follows the rules. Luckily, we’ll be travelling by train most of the time, so we won’t be in the mix too much.

Writing Task 2:-
It is widely believed that children of different levels of intelligence should be taught together, while others think that children that are more intelligent should be taught separately. Discuss both the views and state your opinion?
Sample Answer:-
Education is the process of developing the all important brain power and needs serious consideration. While some people argue that bright children must get education separately from others, others support an integrated system of education. This essay discusses these arguments and states its opinion.
On the other hand, some children are certainly very bright and they express a very high level of intelligence in everything that they do. Education such children separately is a good idea. Educating them with ordinary children means wasting precious time in shaping exceptionally intelligent children who can contribute much to the society. There are examples of children who could become university graduates while their peers were still in the early years of their secondary education.
The other side of the argument is that extraordinary bright children are a negligible (= unimportant) minority. At a given time, there may not be more than ten such children in a school. Educating them separately is not going to give society education for different children strongly argue that this will create a segregated society having conflicting interests. This will lead to economic divisions which will endanger social cohesion.
Briefly, streaming children according to their intellectual level and educating them separately is indeed a bright idea. However, the possibility of such a group of students being small in number, it is not a practicable reform. Moreover, such a move would make an unwelcome discrimination in the society.

What is your full name?

Where do you come from?
I have lived my entire life in Mumbai until now.
What is your hometown famous for?
Mumbai is famous for a few reasons. It’s one of the biggest metropolitan cities in India and there are lots of international companies there. It’s a very popular tourist place in India. It’s also considered the commercial capital of India.
What kind of books do you like to read?
I mostly like to read biographies. I’m not sure why but it is interesting to read about people’s real lives, especially when they have had interesting lives and have had to deal with many problems. I do read fiction as well, but I often find it difficult to get hold of a book that I really like. I also like reading about books to do with current affairs.
Do you read the same kind of books now that you read when you were a child?
Not really, no. Actually I didn’t read that much when I was a child, but if I did it was mainly fiction books, such as fairy tales. Things like The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Fantasy things.
When do you think is the best time to read?
I think any time is ok, but when I read I like to concentrate, so I can’t read for a short time like on a bus ride like some people do. I like to put time aside to enjoy it. So if I have some free time at the weekend I might read for a few hours. And I nearly always read before I go to bed – this really helps me to sleep.

I suppose I should begin by highlighting the point of where this country is. In actual fact, the countries that I have visited so far can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Among those, India is the one that truly amazed me by many factors. India has a very long history, the country is very big and has the second largest population in the world. I guess this is why there are so much to see. For me, one of the most interesting places in India is The Ganges River, which is well – known as the longest and holiest river in India. While most rivers around the world are for recreation or sports, the Ganges has many other functions. As the Indians believe, that the river is holy, people come here to pray and wash themselves in its water. In addition, the river also has thousands of people who wash their clothes by beating them on rocks. The other thing that often impresses tourist is the unique architect of Hindu temples all over India and visitors can enter at any time. The temples are usually immense and have antique statutes that are thousands of years old. Visitors are also welcome to eat and sleep in the temples at night if they have no place to go. After all, have to say that paying this beautiful country the second visit in future is one of the prioritized items on my bucket list.

How easy is it to travel around your country?
It is really straightforward to travel anywhere you want to go, whether it is in the country or to visit other countries. There are airports in every major city, national rail lines and nation bus services. The flights are often good value and make it convenient for people to travel to other countries. There are good roads too, which means that you can easily travel in your own car to anywhere you want to go.
Which method of travel do you consider safest?
I think that I consider flying to be the most secure way to get around. When you take a flight, everything is so well organised by the airport, air traffic control and other departments, that you know you are in good hands. I prefer travelling this way above going on a train, a boat or in the car, as more accidents happen on those types of transport.
What are the pros and cons of low- cost air travel?
The main benefit of low-priced air tickets is that people can afford to visit more places around the world. Other benefits may include, travelling more frequently and saving money. The drawbacks, however, are that these airlines often add on extra charges for baggage and food. The prices of food and drink on-board the aircraft is high, along with any other extras that were not included in the flight price. They
also have many cancellations and very uncomfortable seats.
