GENERAL WRITING TASK 1

You recently spent the night at an expensive hotel. There was a problem with your room, but the hotel staff was unable to do anything about it. Write a letter to the hotel manager. In your letter

– describe the problem.

– explain what happened when you asked the hotel staff for help.

– say what you would like the manager to do.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to express my dissatisfaction with my stay at your hotel from 1st May to 4th May. I reserved a room for my stay at your hotel as recommended by my organization.

 The room which was given to me had dysfunctional air conditioner. I raised the issue with the hotel staff and they told me that the maintenance engineer was not available. As a result, I requested them to change my room and they told me that hotel was at full occupancy due to a football event in the city. As it was not easy for me to find another hotel at that hour of the night, I had to stay in the same room for the whole night.

I never thought that I would get such poor service at an expensive hotel like yours. I insist that you look into this problem as I do not want other customers to have the same experience. Also, it would be nice if you could consider refunding half of the money I paid or credit the loyalty points for my next stay.

I hope you will take immediate action and resolve the complaint.
