You recently bought a jacket, but when you got home, you discovered it was damaged. When you took it back to the store, you were told that merchandise cannot be returned.
Write a letter to the store manager. In your letter
• describe the problem with the jacket.
• explain what happened when you tried to return it.
• say what you would like the manager to do.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Sir or Madam,
I want to let you know about a very disappointing purchase I made at your store last week. I bought a very nice-looking jacket, but when I got home, I found out that it was damaged. When I tried to return it to the store, I was shocked to learn that returns aren’t allowed. I hope you can help me solve this problem.
The jacket looked nice in the store, but when I got it home, I found that it had several problems. When I put it on, I discovered a hole under the left arm. The lining was torn, too. Also, two buttons were missing from the cuffs.
When I took the jacket back to the store, the associate told me that you don’t accept merchandise returns. She said that I might have caused the damage after I bought the jacket.
This situation is unacceptable. I did not damage the jacket. I think that the store should give me a complete refund. If this is not possible, I will accept store credit to use for buying a different jacket.
I hope we can quickly agree on a solution to this problem.
