SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Gerard,
While writing this letter, I have mixed emotions from the shocking news of your departure from the firm. Even though you have all my best wishes, it is saddening that my expert senior will not be available to assist the team. Thank you for inviting me to your farewell party, but regretfully, I may be unable to make it since we have a family function that cannot be avoided on the same night.
It is a get together of everyone in our joint family, which was planned for more than 6 months. As I am a key organizer of the event, it is difficult for me to be absent. Any other appointments could have been cancelled. But without a fret, since we have our annual dinner the following day, and you have an event lined up, I am sure we can meet at our office function.
I wish you all the best in your future endeavours, Whatever time spent with you in the office are memorable, and you are one of those, who without a doubt will enter my close contacts. You have my details and number. Keep in touch.
