You have been offered a scholarship for obtaining a distance Master’s degree through distance learning at a prestigious university. One of the requirements is to take a test on site once a month.
Write a letter to your current employer.In your letter:
• Share the news.
• Explain how this will be helpful.
• Ask for permission to be absent.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear Mr Smith,
My name is Maggie Wang and I am currently working as a Computer Engineer in IT department. I am writing to share some exciting news of mine with you.
I recently received a full scholarship to obtain a Master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Toronto. The scholarship was awarded because I finished second place in a coding competition that was held by the university last summer. I am very excited to learn about the reward as well as the opportunity to further advance myself in the computer engineering field.
There is no doubt that this will benefit my current job. I will be able to complete more projects in less time. Also, the new and most updated computer coding language that I will study and master during the program will equip me with the most cutting-edge tools to help our company stand out from the competition.
The courses will be conducted in distance learning. However, there is an on-site test each month which requires me to travel to the test location. Therefore, I need to ask your permission to be absent from my work on the test day.
