A friend has invited you to a birthday party, but you will be unable to attend. Write a letter to your friend.
In your letter

SAMPLE ANSWER
Dear R,
I just received the invitation to your birthday party. I’m very sorry to tell you that I won’t be able to attend because I have another event on that same night. However, I hope we’ll have another chance to get together soon.
First I want to thank you for the invitation. Turning 30 is an important milestone in life, and I feel honored that you want me to celebrate the occasion with you.
Unfortunately, I have an important family event to attend on the same night as your party. My cousin will be graduating from college, and his parents have planned a special party to celebrate. Of course, I’m very proud of my cousin but sorry his party is on the same night as yours.
However, I’d still like to celebrate with you. Are you free for dinner some evening next week? I’d like to take you to the restaurant of your choice. Just let me know which evening is best for you.
I’m so sorry I can’t be at your party, but I send you many wishes for a very happy birthday.
