IELTS Speaking Interview

What is your full name?

My full name is ABC.

How may I address you?

You may address me as …….. .

IELTS Speaking Interview

May I see your ID?

Sure, here it is.

Do you like jogging?

Nah, if you’re talking about going for a jog or getting on a treadmill. I can’t stand it and I don’t think it’s worth the alleged health benefits. Whenever I feel like exercising, I just lie down and wait for the feeling to pass. I was so happy to hear that it’s bad for your joints because that gave me an excuse not to ever try going for another run and wiped away any health-related guilt I might’ve felt.

When was the last time you went for a long run?

I remember pretty well the last time I went for a run, long as I haven’t forgotten any times since then… I was about 22 so must’ve been more than a decade ago. I was dating a girl who was an avid runner – cross country and everything – and I was a good athlete but not a runner. I wanted to show off and thought I could handle it without any training beforehand – I thought I’d be way faster no matter how far we ran. But it was a rude awakening – I gave up halfway through and the experience scarred me enough to put me off running forever.

Do you enjoy watching running competitions on TV?

I guess you mean the marathon and Olympic track and field… I’ve never watched the full telecast of the marathon – I doubt anyone has – I’ve only seen highlights on the news of the runners crossing the finish line. I have watched some track and field at the Olympics – the first time Usain Bolt won gold but I haven’t caught any of the last 2 Olympics.

Is your neighborhood a good place for running around?

Yes, it’s ideal in a lot of ways. I come from a small suburb – the roads are pretty empty most of the time so you can run in the street or on the sidewalk. There are a lot of little forests nearby with running trails and a big lake. I never availed myself of the opportunity to go for a run because for me a run is a run – even in a paradise, it’s still exercise.

What kind of flowers do you know?

I wouldn’t say I’m a big flower person but naturally I recognize roses, lilies, sunflowers – the famous ones, haha. In my hometown in the spring tourists flock there to see the flowers blooming – the plum blossom, cherry blossoms and so on. Taking selfies with flowers is one of the biggest national pastimes in China.

One of the historical figures that I admire the most would be Thomas Alva Edison. He was an American Inventors who lived at the end of the eighteenth century. It is said that Edison was one of the greatest inventors in the world, as he had found more than 1000 inventions during his time.

One of his greatest inventions would be the bulb light that we still use until today. In his biography, it was told that he had done almost 1000 experiences for the light and almost failed. But due to his persistence and strong determination, he finally found the bulb light. He was also the co-founder of the giant multinational company, General electric, which still exist until today. But the Company has transformed into a high-tech company which sells various kinds of products these days.

I personally like Edison, because of his great determination. During his time, scientists had limited equipment, as there was no computer, no calculator and people have limited access to the library.  But with that limitation, he never complained and gave up and continued to make some experiments. His story has motivated so many people all over the world and I believe that we should continue to pass the story to the young generation.

One of the fascinating things about Edison’s life would be when he was a child. He was dropped out from school because his teacher believed that he was too stupid to learn. But thankfully he had a kind and loving mother who never gave up on him. She became Edison’s teacher who always supported him in every situation. And in the end, Edison became one of the greatest inventors in history.

Do you think children are more interested in learning about history nowadays?

No, I don’t think so. Children are reluctant to learn about their past despite the availability and easy access to several sources and materials, including books, museums, the Internet, and movies. For most of them, the subject seems boring.

As per you, what sources can people get reliable historical information?

People can get the most accurate information from the books written by prominent historians by visiting art galleries and museums. Apart from these, many reliable websites with authentic details are available online.

IELTS Speaking Interview

Do you think it is necessary to know about history?

Answer A: it is essential because history teaches us about our past. We learn about many things: our ancestors, our evolution, how we have won freedom, and many other things. History teaches us to learn from our mistakes and makes us aware of our progress.

Do you think museum entry should be free?

No, museums should not charge an entry fee. Museums require proper maintenance to function. Hence, a minimum price should be set to take appropriate care. Moreover, it is human tendency not to value things which come free of cost.
