IELTS SPEAKING FULL INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Komud Kumar.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Komud.

May I see your ID?

Sure, here it is.

Where is your hometown?

My hometown is on the south-east coast of Northern Ireland. It’s called Dundrum and it’s about 1 hour south of the capital city.

What do you not like about it?

It can be a little bit boring because it’s really tiny. There are only a few small shops and a couple of pubs and that’s it! In the summer, it’s OK because you can enjoy the outdoors but it would be nice to have a few more indoor facilities for the winter.

How often do you visit your hometown?

Not as much as I should. I only get to visit about once a year now to see my family because I’m really busy with work and it’s quite far away, but I hope to visit more in the future.

What’s the oldest part of your hometown?

There is an old Norman castle that sits on top of the highest hill of the town. It’s a ruin now, but there are some breath taking views from it and it’s easy to see why they chose that site for a castle, because you can see for miles around.

Do many people visit your town?

Thousands of tourists visit every summer. They come from the capital city mostly to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the peace and quiet. There are more and more international tourists visiting because lots of scenes from the TV show ‘Game of Thrones’ were shot just outside the village.

Is there any way your hometown could be made better?

As I said before, the best thing about the town is its rural beauty and you can’t really improve that. If I had to say something, it would be to improve the roads; they are in a terrible state and cause a few car accidents every year.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Describe a creative person who you admire (e.g., a scientist, an inventor)

You should say:

– Who this person is

– What area of creativity they work in

– How you know about this person

– And explain what work they have created that you particularly admire.

SAMPLE ANSWER

I’m going to talk about a musician/songwriter that I admire, called Adam Levine. He’s also a singer who plays the guitar and writes his own songs. I think he recorded his first album about 10 years ago with his band called Maroon 5, and he’s released several other CDs since then.

He became successful after many years of writing songs and performing live in small venues all over the country. Gradually he built a following of people who liked his music. I think the key to his success was one of his songs that were used on a TV advertisement. This meant that more people became aware of his music.

I found out about Adam because one of my friends got tickets to see him in concert. I hadn’t heard any of his music before, but I went along to the gig and really enjoyed it. After that I bought the first CD, and now I’ve got all of them.

The reason I’m into Adam is that he has worked hard for his success: it takes years of practice to become a good singer and guitarist, and he spent several years playing to very small audiences before he became successful. I also like the fact that he writes his own music. I admire people who have worked hard to get where they are.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

What is a creative personality?

I think creative people have a flair for making something from nothing, whether it’s writing a story, putting together new music, producing a film or even coming up with new hair styles. But whatever you do, you have to be full of energy and passion. It’s not an easy thing to do and if you do naturally enjoy creating then yeah, you have those qualities to be creative.

Can creativity be achieved though practising?

Of course, I definitely believe that creativity is a skill to be learned, practised, and developed, just like any other. Although a lot of people often label creativity as a natural gift, that people’s performance reflects their innate talent instead of the amount of work they have done to acquire that skill, I still think we all have a wellspring of creative energy. The question is just how to tap it. The more you make creativity part of your daily life, the more it will grow.

Why is it hard for some people to be creative?

Because they accept that they were born that way, the way which has nothing to do with creativity and for that they don’t try to improve, to practise, to be better. I also think that creativity is hard for lazy people, lazy in thinking, in their activities, in their willing to generate energy and enthusiasm. Please, be active, dynamic, question more, explore more and you will find yourself in a very creative world.
