IELTS SPEAKING FULL INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Navdeep Singh.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Navdeep.

May I see your identification?

Sure, here you go.

Do you write a letter or email?

I really like writing letter to other people, especially on special occasions. I remember writing many letters, like birthday letters, or farewell ones to any of my friends and relatives who had to go somewhere far away from me. My friends and relatives always feel happy when they receive a letter from me; they say that it makes them feel important and cherished.

Do you think emails are useful?

Emails are really useful and important to me. I can use emails to contact people who are staying far away from me, and this really comes in handy as I have lots of foreign friends. Moreover, I can receive notifications through emails by subscribing to any online channels that appeal to me.

What sorts of letters (or emails) do you think are the most difficult to write?

Formal emails, like the ones you send to recruiters, to your boss, to your professor and so on, are very difficult to write. You have to choose the right tone for the emails so that they do not appear too casual or too serious, and you to pay attention to the format of the emails too.

Do you prefer to write letters or emails? Why?

It depends. For special occasions, like on someone’s birthday, I prefer writing letters to congratulate them as handwritten letters can show my sincerity. However, if I need to write something formal, say to recruiter to apply for a certain position, email is my first choice. It’s instant, easy to format and I can attach different files with it do it is very convenient too.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Describe the member of your family who is the most successful.

You should say:

– who this person is

– what this person does

– and explain why he/she is successful.

SAMPLE ANSWER

I think that the person who is the most successful in my family would be my father. I think also that the answer to the question ‘Who is the most successful person in your family?’ basically depends on what you think ‘success’ means, so, my answer is in the context of working life, rather than personal life. And that’s why I’ve chosen my dad.

He has a job that is rewarding. He feels like he’s accomplishing something, that is obviously personally and professionally satisfying, but he also feels like he’s contributing to society in a positive way, which is a quality that a lot of jobs these days seem to lack and is something that I gauge success on.

It’s a bit hard to explain exactly what he does, but basically he works for a charitable organisation that runs retirement homes for old people, especially old people who haven’t got much money. It’s a management job, but working in a context which is really worthwhile.

His success is due to a lot of different things basically … finding the right job for him, one that suited him and his personality as well as his qualifications, and the goals that he wants to reach in his working life. But he’s also just worked hard over a lot of years, which means that it’s more likely that he’ll be successful, I guess, if success comes from hard work, which it often does.

I see my dad very regularly, about once a week. We often eat breakfast together before we go to our respective workplaces, so, yes, I think that I’d have to say he was the most successful because he enjoys what he does, as well as making a decent living out of it and I admire that in him. I think that in a work context this is what success means.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

How many generations usually live together in India?
I think the situation in India is undergoing a change. Earlier joint familes were more common and three or four generations used to live together. On the other hand, nowadays nuclear families are more common with maximum of two generations living together.

Is it important to visit family members?
Yes, it is really important to meet family regularly. I think family defines us and family is what supports us and stands with us in bad times. However, I think this selfless bond only stays if we remain in contact with each other.

What are the values of family in your country?
The think the main values of family in India are respect for elders and prioritizing the needs of the family over our individual needs. That is why, in India we think in we rather in I, for example we own a house, we own this car.
