IELTS SPEAKING FULL INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Akira Sharma.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Akira.

May I see your identification?

Sure, here you go.

How many languages can you speak? [Why/Why not?]?

Well, I can use 2 languages. I was born and brought up in Vietnam and so you can say I speak Vietnamese fluently. I know English as well because it is taught as a compulsory subject in most schools in my country.

How useful will English be to you in your future? [Why/Why not?]

I think knowing English increases my chances of getting a good job in a high-profile company or of finding a scholarship to study abroad. You know, English is the most commonly spoken language in the world, so this language will give me a big advantage over others.

What do you remember about learning languages at school? [Why/Why not?]

English was the only foreign language I learnt at high school and sadly, at that time, I was not a big fan of the subject in any case. Attending English classes was a real nightmare for me because our teachers’ idea of teaching was to stand at the podium and read from the textbook for the entire 45 minutes.

What do you think would be the hardest language for you to learn? [Why?]

I actually tried learning Japanese a while back and yes, it is certainly the most challenging language I’ve ever known. Everything fell apart as soon as I started to learn by heart three different alphabets, including Chinese characters. After struggling in my Japanese class for a few weeks, I realized that I was not cut out for this language.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Describe a person who gave a clever solution to a problem

You should say:

• Who the person is

• When and where it happened

• What the problem was

And explain why it was a clever solution.

SAMPLE ANSWER

To ‘think outside of the box’ is always the term that comes to mind whenever a problem arises and not everyone succeeds in coming up with a solution, but there is one person on this planet though who always surprises me with his cleverness and ability to come up with a solution to even some of the toughest problems. His name is Nam and he’s my older brother.

My mother always told us that even though we’re brothers and we have a close–knit relationship, we’re still as different as two people could possibly be. I’m quite an active person and have a tendency to make very quick decisions, while my brother is extremely calm and usually solves problems in a level-headed kind of way, and that’s the reason why he has been a kind of saviour to me on a number of occasions.

There was a time that I consider as an important landmark in my life which was when I took the entrance exam to university. And similar to my mother, I suffer from hypotension which is low blood pressure and sometimes causes dizziness when I’m hungry or tired. In certain circumstances, I just need the sugar from a couple of candy bars to recover, but actually I’m quite an absent-minded person so I usually forget to carry any with me.

On that day, when the start of the examination was getting nearer, I was so nervous that I couldn’t think clearly and my hands had begun to shake. All of a sudden I found some tiny chocolate bars in my pocket, and they absolutely saved my life! In the end, it turned out that my brother remembered to put some in my pocket for me in order to avoid this situation. So thoughtful and so smart he was to do such a thing!

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Are most clever people happy? Why?

Not necessarily. Clever people have high expectations of life. They may feel unhappy if things never go according to their expectations. On the other hand, clever people know that happiness is a state of mind, and so they may try their best to stay happy. So, I think everybody has their perceptions regarding it.

Do you think clever people are selfish?

No, selfishness has nothing to do with intelligence. I think it is a personal nature to be selfish. A clever person may get success in his life and may seem to be selfish, but actually, he is not. It is human nature to look after other interests first. So, it is not good to say that intelligence makes people selfish.

Do you think clever people are helpful?

Well, intelligence never matters in case of helping others. Anyone can help. To make it more clear, some people have more money, and they help by giving money. Some people have qualities or knowledge. They help by sharing it, then how we can say we should be cleverer to help others.
