IELTS SPEAKING FULL INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Emiley Jane.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Emiley.

May I see your ID?

Sure, here is my passport.

Do you like snacks?

Yes, I do. Around mid morning I usually have some fruit and then at about 3pm I have some biscuits or something like that.

What kinds of snacks are popular in your country?

Well, I guess that most people eat junk food like crisps, chocolate and biscuits for their snacks. I suppose office workers mainly eat junk food like biscuits but other people sometimes eat fruit or something healthier.

Do you think eating snacks is good for your health?

I think that if you’re hungry, it’s perfectly fine to have some fruit but if people eat junk food between meals, then it’s really unhealthy. I think all kind of snacking between main meals is bad for your health. If people avoided snacking, they would be much healthier and less over weight.

Do you often invite friends to visit your home?

I do but only when we have known each other well for quite a long time. As most of my friends also enjoy staying inside like me, normally I just invite one friend then we buy some snacks home and exchange some chitchat for hours. I sometimes invite 3 to 4 friends so we can have a girl-night-in with movies or a small pyjama party.

Do you like visitors coming to your home?

Only if I’m informed about the visit. I typically don’t like sudden visits that they pay when I have to open the door in my pyjamas. That kind of visitors to me is so impolite. Oh, and I also don’t like a big crowd visiting my place. They’re too noisy and most of the time I’m afraid of my property secretly being stolen.

Do you prefer to have friends visit you, or relatives?

Both friends’ and relatives’ visits are meaningful to me. Since our relatives live far away, we really appreciate their efforts and time to visit us. My friends only come when they’re invited, so we don’t have much problem with time.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Describe a skill that you can teach other people.

You should say

– What is it?

– How you learnt it?

– How can you teach others this skill?

– How do you feel about this skill?

SAMPLE ANSWER

There are a lot of skills that I wish to learn. However, there is one skill that I know well, and I am able to teach others. That is the ‘mindful breathing skill.’ Mindful breathing is a very basic yet powerful meditation technique. The idea is to simply focus your attention on your breathing, to its natural rhythm and flow and the way it feels on inhaling and exhaling. This skill is becoming more and more popular due to its countless advantages.

I learned this skill two years ago, in my practical yoga class from my yoga teacher. The purpose of this skill is to concentrate on the present moment so that we can let go of worrying about the past and the future. Such breathing technique reduces anxiety, helps with pain reduction, manages stressful thoughts, and decreases negative thinking. It is a useful, powerful, and life-changing skill.

I can teach this skill personally by demonstrating to a small group about the different ways of mindful breathing. I do not need any equipment for it. I can teach this in a garden or in a classroom. It is also possible to teach this skill online. I have also made my videos to teach this skill to my friends who are away, and I can’t meet them. I can teach practical as well as explain the theoretical benefits of mindful breathing. I have taught this too many.

Whenever I practice this skill myself, I feel relaxed and rejuvenated. I have learnt to let go and forgive others. My faith in God is reassured, and I feel positive and happier than before. I feel that I should teach this skill to as many people as I know so that more people can get benefits of this skill as well. I also believe that this skill should be taught in school so that children can learn to manage their tensions and tough emotions. I feel lucky that I know this skill.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Should teachers be funny when they teach?

Humour is a universal communication phenomenon, and people tend to seek others who make them laugh. However, the classroom is not typically associated/ has no relation with laughter or humorous interaction. Education has always traditionally been thought of as a serious undertaking, but if a teacher has a good sense of humour and friendly nature, it can improve the relationship of a teacher with their student. Students can share their problems without any hesitation. But more friendly nature may disturb the class discipline.

What qualities should teachers have?

Firstly, I think the most important skill that teachers should have is good communication skills. They need to understand how to teach in simple words. Secondly, they should be good observers. They need to be able to pick up the fears and anxieties students have. Only then they can build their confidence. Finally, teaching is about patience. Teachers need to be ready to explain the concepts repeatedly if their students are facing any difficulty.

Which do you think are more important practical skills or academic skills?

Practical skills and academic skills have their own importance. I think it depends upon the person’s profession. If a person wants to be a teacher, a lawyer, or anything in academics, they need to be an expert in academics. However, in other fields like business, communication skills etcetera, are more important.
