IELTS SPEAKING FULL INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Gursewak Singh.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Gursewak.

May I see your identification?

Sure, here you go.

Do you like reading?

Yes. I used to read a lot as a child, but now my tight schedule rarely gives me any breathing space for any pastime.

What kinds of books do you like to read?

When I was young, I was a huge fan of foreign comic books like Spider Man or Naruto. As I got older, I grew more interested in famous fiction novels like “Harry Potter” or the “The Hunger Games”.

Will you read book when you get older?

I hope so. I intend to take up reading again when I have more spare time. Reading broadens the mind and it is also an excellent stress reliever.

Do you make plans every day?

Yes. I like to have a fixed daily plan and rarely do anything spontaneous. Unfortunately, my schedule now is really hectic, so I have little time for any leisure activities.

What is the latest plan you make?

A specific plan, you mean? I’m making a travel plan for my trip to Thailand over the next two weeks. I must calculate living expenses, note down metro numbers and pack food and clothes in advance.

What is the hardest part of making plans?

I believe it is deciding which tasks are more important and should be prioritized. I often spend a lot of time deciding whether I should spend more time at the gym or at work.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Describe a special trip in the near future

You should say:

• When it will possibly be

• Where you would go

• What preparation you need for the trip

And explain why this would be a special trip.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Travelling is what I enjoy the most in life and I’ve now visited most of the famous places in Vietnam. However, most of my trips were always with my friends, so now I really want to do something different and take my parents on a very special trip to visit Thien Cam beach.

We will probably take this trip next June I think. At that time of year, there won’t be any school for me so things will be much easier to plan. My parents are also very excited about the trip and are really looking forward to it.

Thien Cam is the largest beach in Vietnam and is quite a popular tourist destination, famous for its big waves. It is located in the central part of the country, which is not really too far from where we currently live. When we arrive, aside from enjoying the beach, we will probably visit some other tourist attractions around the area, and I guess that during the trip we will probably get some souvenirs for our relatives as well.

In terms of the preparation, we are planning to go there by train so that we can enjoy the scenic beauty of our country along the way. Of course we’ll probably have to book a hotel in advance, and bring our swimsuits, sunscreen and summer clothes. Another important thing to remember to bring is medicines, just in case someone gets sick.

So, the main reason this will be a special trip I guess is because my parents will be with me and this will be the first time they visit this place. Having my parents there with me will really make it special because it’s been more than 7 years since we took a holiday together.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Do people prefer short trips or long trips?

These days I prefer to take longer trips than shorter trips. With the longer trips I like to take 9 to 10 days because the places I go are usually outside of China for the past 2 years. In this way after you get on and off the plane to a place like Thailand or also in my case Australia to check out the schools there and to tour around you lose 2 days just in traveling. After the jet lag I want to relax and take my time in the city where I’m staying so relaxation is the key thing when I go on a trip and that’s why I like longer trips these days.

What kinds of problems would people have when they go on a long trip?·

Probably forgetting something is one of your biggest problems when you’re taking a long trip. My parents had a trip out to the United States last year to visit my sister in university and my father forgot to bring his medicine for his diabetes and so he had to visit a hospital there to get a blood test done and get his prescription filled. Likewise, my mother forgot her wallet that has all of her credit cards on that trip so my father had to go shopping with her to all of the stores so that they could use his credit card.
