I am a dweller of rural area named as Dala.

Is eating healthy important?
Yes, healthy eating is important because most of the diseases today are because of unhealthy diets. Obesity is very common problem nowadays. if it is root cause of many other problems. Healthy eating means good quality food and also hygienic food. We should eat less fat and salt and we should avoid junk food, which is rich in fats and salts.

A lot is being done to promote healthy food. government are giving ads about healthy foods and even food inspectors are regularly checking food outlets to monitor the quality of food provided by them. Agriculture department is also making farmers aware about the harms of insecticides and pesticides and also giving subsidies on good qualities fertilizers.

How to we get the message about eating out to the community?
We can get the message about healthy eating out to the community through media such as the TV and newspaper.

Do meals have any special meaning in yours culture?
Yes, meals are very significant in my culture. People give special importance to the family meal in which all family members sit together and eat. The lady of the house serves the meal with great warmth. This is also the time for the family to talk about the day’s happening with each other. It has been well said, “a family that eat together, stays together.” Earlier families used to share three meals a day, but now due to fast paced life the only family meal is dinner.

Do meals change from the one region to another in your country?
India is diverse country. There is diversity in meal also. North Indians and South Indians meals are poles apart. In North India the staple diet is wheat where in South India it is rice.

Do you think eating habits have changed? In what ways?
Eating habits have changed in many ways. Earlier people used to sit together and share all the meal of the day. Now, breakfast is very hurried and lunch is also taken at the workplace. Earlier traditional foods were preferred but now fast food culture is very popular. Ready to eat foods are also available and people don’t cook the food like earlier times.

Some positive changes can be seen. People are growing toward organic food, which are much healthier as they don’t have any chemical fertilizers and insecticides and pesticides. People have also become more aware about their health and are using low cholesterol oils and lesser salt in their diets.

Do you think what we eat is healthy?
It is difficult to answer. Home cooked food is definitely healthier as we use the best oils and lesser salts. Fast foods are not good for health. Therefore, not everything we eat nowadays is healthy. Actually, at times the palate rules over the head.

Do you think that the governments should control the food production?
Yes, the governments should do so ideally. But it is very difficult for the government to do so because most farmers would like to grow cash crops. If there are strict regulation, then people will find loopholes to do what they want. The government can give special aid to those farmers who grow crops suggested by the government.

What food do people where you live (or, in your country)usually eat?
In my city/ India, people usually eat local and seasonal produce. However, now there are more fast food outlets and the restaurants offers cuisines from all over world, like Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Lebanese etc. also there are many fruits and vegetables from other countries that are now available in India, for e.g. Kiwis, Dragon fruits, etc.

Which meals do you prefer, lunch or dinner (super)? Why?
I do not prefer one to the other. I think that all meals are important, but I take lighter dinner and not too late in the evening.

Speak about the best gift you have received so far
– What that gift was
– Who gave it to you and when
– Why you like that gift

SAMPLE ANSWER:- (7 Band)

I have received many gifts in my life, but the gift that I would like to talk about is very special and the best that I have ever got in my life. I am talking about the year 1999 when I was assisting my father in his business in which we had to move from one place to another in a very big market, and yet we had to stay connected to our clients. I was facing great difficulties, as I had to attend phone calls and move out with my clients in the market. This task of handling both the phone calls and clients was really tough for me.

At that time, a mobile company started its services in my city. The moment I saw that, I wanted to buy a mobile but I thought of buying it after some months as it was very new and I had no idea about it. However, my father had been observing my difficulties and he gifted me a mobile phone on my birthday at home. It was a precious phone of Samsung Company with flap and having excellent contemporary features.

I was very happy to receive such a precious gift on my birthday. The phone had excellent memory and display features. Mobile phones were very uncommon at that time in my city. Hence, the gift had kept me in a privileged class of mobile phone users at that time. When he gave the gift pack to me. I did not know about it. It was a surprise and the moment I saw the mobile phone I jumped with joy.

I thanked him and took his blessings. Then I showed the phone to all my family members, friends and relatives and next day I started using it with pride and joy. I have preserved that phone with me as a memento.

Should we select the gift of our choice or should we select the gift of the receiver’s choice?
I think a gift is an expression of our feelings to the other person. So I would buy gifts as per my choice. However, I do consider likes and dislikes of the receiver of the gift so that I may not end up giving a gift that the receiver wouldn’t appreciate at all.
