PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Kuchina Subhitho.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Kuchina.

May I see your ID?

Sure, here it is.

How often do you like to hang out with friends?

I hang out with my friends from time to time. Normally if we have a lot of time at the weekends, we might go to the cinema to watch movies. We can take our kids to have a good time. If we don’t have that much time maybe we will just have dinner together in a restaurant.

Who do you usually like to hang out with?

Usually I like to hang out with one of my close friends. Actually we live in the same community so we can meet frequently. Also both of our kids are in the same class in kindergarten, so we like to take them to the park or playground together.

Where do you like to go when you hang out with your friends?

Well, that depends. Sometimes we go to a restaurant to enjoy tasty food if someone knows a decent place. But if we have plenty of time, we like to plan a hike or camp in a nearby forest park to enjoy the countryside. That would be a very memorable experience.

What’s your favourite vegetable and fruit?

My top three favourite fruits and vegetables are broccoli, celery and grapes because all of them are both nutritious and delicious. Also, I want to give mushrooms an honourable mention as they are one of my favourite things to cook with, although they are a fungus.

How often do you eat fruits?

I eat fruit at home on a daily basis. I always buy a lot of different types of fruit in the shopping mall at the weekends for my whole family. Are there any special fruits in your hometown? Oh yes, there are loquat trees everywhere in my hometown. Loquat is very sweet and has lots of nutrition and is actually medicinal too.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

Describe a street you know well

You should say:

• Where it is

• What the main buildings are

• How often you go there

And explain how you feel about this street

SAMPLE ANSWER

Well, there are quite a few streets that I could have chosen to talk about, but I’d have to say the one I most enjoy going to is Ly Thai To Street, which is one of the most popular tourist areas in Hanoi.

Regarding the location, the street is somewhere in the centre of the city, about fifteen to twenty minutes’ drive from where I live. So I normally go there by scooter.

And as for how often I go there, well on average, I guess probably something like once or twice a month, which I know is not a lot, but unfortunately, I just don’t have enough time to go there as often as I’d like to.

Anyway, most of the time I actually just go there for the street food, because there are loads of stalls which do really good food, like barbecued squid, bacon sandwiches, chicken wings and stuff like that. So that’s basically what I mainly go there for. There’s also quite a few little shops selling various souvenirs and handicrafts as well, but I don’t spend much time in them because most of the things are pretty overpriced. For example, a pack of postcards will probably set you back about 30,000 dong or so, whereas if you went to any bookshop in the city, it would probably only cost about 10,000 dong.

But anyway, in terms of why I like this street, firstly, as I just mentioned, the food there is fantastic, and as well as that, I also like that fact that it’s pedestrianised, so there’s a lot of space to walk around without having to worry about getting hit by a car! And another thing worth mentioning is that most of the buildings are pretty old, so it gives the street a really nice, traditional feeling.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Do you think walking in the countryside is better than walking in the city?

Surely yes. On the countryside, you are more likely to find greenery, free roads, more parks, but with cities, there are certain issues. Like, most of them have got big building so while walking there is not much that you can capture about nature. Also, with cities, there are issues like pollution, which do affect us in many ways.

What could be done to improve the experience of walking in cities?

I think having bigger and better parks can be one thing. So, a park where you can find lot of trees and garden and may be a lake could give the feel of the country side. It is not necessary that these parks are built in every locality but may be more frequently. So, that people can come here and relax and feel good about life.

Do you like walking on your own or with others?

It depends. So, if I am really messed up with my life and want some clarity, I prefer walking alone. But, in times when I am tired and feel emaciated, I prefer going out on a walk with my friends. It helps me to relax a bit and then carry on with life. So, for me both go fine, my mental state is what makes the difference.
