IELTS SPEAKING INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO

What is your name?

My name is Derill Fab.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Derill.

May I see your ID?

Sure, here it is.

When was the last time you were alone?

Last night, I had come from a stressful day of work so I decided to stay in for the entire evening with some Netflix and hot tea. Although I’m kind of a social butterfly (a social person), I have come to enjoy nights in by myself from time to time. I think all of us need that as a balance.

What do you like to do when you are alone?

As I’m a tea addict, that’s my number one activity to do alone. Furthermore, I enjoy reading a book or a series on Netflix. I tend to get lost in (to become fully involved in) those two activities. Moreover, I enjoy taking a walk alone around town and people watching (observing strangers).

Do you wish to have more time alone?

Definitely not. As I live alone in a studio apartment, I sometimes get lonely, so I take every opportunity to have social interactions to avoid sitting at home alone. I would consider myself a mixture between introvert and extrovert, but definitely leaning more towards extrovert.  Although I appreciate my time alone, I certainly don’t crave (have an urge to do) anymore.

Is it important to have some time alone?

Without a doubt! I think we all need some time alone for self-reflection (thinking about yourself and what you do). Furthermore, when we spend too much time with people, we tend to get annoyed with them, even take them for granted (not appreciate them) at times. With this said, we all need a break from people to remember just how great they are.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Well, every household is flooded with devices and appliances and breakdowns are quite frequent with these. Though we generally get them fixed from experts but here I would like to share my experience of fixing water filter by myself.

Actually, we have a water filtered installed to access fresh drinking water free from impurities, but lately the water not having the same taste as it should have.

My mother asked me to arrange a repair for the same. But the repair guy was over occupied for the next two days.

Since it is not possible to manage without potable water I decided to fix it on my own. Since I had already fixed a few items by following some YouTube videos. So, I checked on YouTube how to fix the water filter. Out of the suggested videos I chose one with 50,000 views and in this video, the host has described each and everything in detail with photos for better understanding.

With a screwdriver when I took off the lid, I got shocked to see the amount of dirt inside. The candle inside which actually filters the water had turned almost brown or more or less black. As per the recommendation in the video, decided to change the candle rather than cleaning it. I immediately went to the market to get a new one and after changing it I gave thorough wash to the machine. I think it was quite simple to do and once all done I fitted the filter as it was originally.

After some time when it started to dispense the water, its taste was as good as Bilsleri. My mother was super impressed as I handled the job well.

Overall, it was the time when something broke down and I fixed it.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Are IT-related jobs valued more by society?

I don’t think they are valued more or less than other jobs. But yes the significance of IT jobs has increased in recent years as our dependence on technology has increased.

Is the quality of products worse than before?

I definitely think the quality has fallen in recent years. This is based on my personal experience. The first refrigerator my parents bought still works fine but the ones we bought after that broke down after three-four years and this is true for nearly every electronic product. I think the technology is becoming more and more complex but that has taken a toll on product durability.

What kinds of things do people like to repair by themselves?

I think YouTube and Google have made it possible to repair anything and everything. Recently my mom fixed her sewing machine by watching a YouTube video. I have fixed my mobile phone and laptop many times by just searching on Google.

Why do people like to get their mobile phones repaired in specialized stores?

I think the main reason is that they don’t want to void the phone’s warranty. I think most companies mention that if the phone is opened by a non-registered technician or store, the warranty would not be applicable. I think it is a tactic by companies to ensure that they can charge people heavily for parts, which can be repaired cheaply.
