PART – 1 INTRO PART

What is your full name?

My name is Manpreet Kaur Saini.

Can I see your ID?

Yes, here you are.

Where are you from?

I am from Chandigarh, Punjab.

Do you work or study?

I am studying at the moment, here at Punjab University in Punjab.

What subjects are you studying?

I am doing Master degree in Business Administration.

Do you really enjoy this course?

Yes, I really like it because this course trains students with the essential courses that could be very useful at later stage of life. This course has a tremendous demand in India and abroad.

Do you like the place where you live?

Yes, I do. I love Chandigarh because it is one of the best cities of India. It is a city that is quite organized and full of life. We live in a nice peaceful area. It’s total residential area and you won’t find any shops in the immediate vicinity. That’s something I like the most. It’s a good place to live in.

How do you usually spend your weekends?

Well, generally I’ve no specific plans for weekends. I take weekends as they shape up. Most importantly weekends are marked for resting, having fun with family or going out with friends to try new restaurants, pubs or discotheques. But during a normal weekend when I’ve nothing particularly planned, I often help my mother around the house and run some errands (=chose, task).

Which is your favourite part of the weekend?

Ah, the best part of the weekend is the late hours of evening. I don’t need to worry about waking up early on the following day; I mean Saturday night. Usually, my friends and I meet on Saturday evening.

How important do you think is to have free time on weekends?

There are so many things to do on weekends, not particularly related to your job but more related to your personal life for an overall wellbeing and balance in life. Therefore, some time on weekends is essential. Free time on weekends helps you either decompress (=calm down and relax) or get energized for the week ahead.

PART – 2 CUE CARD

You should say:

– How the day started

– How things went wrong

– Who the people were involved

– Explain why it was stressful

SAMPLE ANSWER

I could recount (=tell) a stressful day which was some years back at my school. I was in my 2nd semester, and studying the course of ‘Marketing’. Our professor, Patricia Mellon, was assigned to teach this course. She was always boring; in fact, I always doubted her reasoning about the subject matter. During an MBA degree, our classes were scheduled during the weekend for the full day, 8.30 throughout 5.30 in the evening. It’s hard to go through the classroom session for the whole day, especially when you are struck with a professor like her, it takes a heavy toll on students (=have a bad effect).

Her second session was one of the most boring of all. Yet I remember that almost half of the classroom was hibernating all the time. We were, indeed, dragging the day. First of all, she was late by 7 minutes or so, and honestly I can’t withstand the procrastinators (=the person who delays). Then after, she yapped (=chatter, prattle) for a while, and puts us through a ‘YouTube’ video watching for almost an hour or so. This set the platform for further disappointment and boredom for the entire class.

After the lunch break, we all hoped that some sort of sanity (=soundness of mind, rationality) would prevail but we were mistaken completely. Some of my classmates including me had a few doubts on various points, and we hoped that they would be addressed. Whenever we raised our queries, she dodged (=elude, run away from) the topics. I mean that’s quite unacceptable because when you spend $30K for your degree, you at least hope for something reasonable that encourages creativity and puts us through to apply reasoning to get better.

As mentioned, almost half of the classroom-may be more than that-was annoyed to attend her classroom. What could we do? Nothing!

Somehow, we survived, worked through all the difficulties, and completed the course. That second session was something that I would never forget in my life. It was such a stressful day in the world of academic setting that I never expected it. We learnt nothing, and were left on our own for the exam preparation.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Which would you choose: A stressful job with very high pay or a relaxing job with considerably low pay? Why?

I think it would depend on the situation in which I am. So, if I have the money and I am not in an urgent need of it, I would prefer a relaxing job. But, if the choice is given between two jobs out of which one is what I love to do and the other is not; I would no matter how much stress is there, would go for a job that is close to my heart.

Do you suffer from stress when you have too much work to do?

Yes, sometimes I do. The most stressful days for me are the ones in which I have to work a lot and then there is no one whom I can talk to or fight with and comfort myself. I believe after every stressful or low moment, there should be a day where one can relax and just recharge oneself to be able to do more work.

Do you keep your worries a secret from everyone?

Most of the times, yes I do. I don’t like troubling people with my issues but then there are times when things get out of my control and when that happen, I tend to share my sorrows with people who are very close to me. They are either my friends or sometimes I even write about it.
