People need to make various decisions in their daily life, and off the top of my head, one of the wise decisions that one of my buddies made is to abandon university education and pursue vocational training instead.

He had been talking over this matter with his folks and asked for consultations from many friends before reaching his final decision. I’d put it down to the fact that nowadays thousands of fresh graduates from prestigious universities are ready to get into job market annually, and the demand for labour force in some areas such as business, banking or finance is quite saturated. This may have triggered him to follow his own path of becoming a mechanic.

This turned out to be a wise choice for a career. At first he did have a hard time finding customers for his business, but he put out his best efforts to work. After a while, he earned enough to open his own business mending cars and other machines. I’d have to say that his services sell like hot cakes recently after he has attained a certain degree of trust from his customers. It must have been a tough and risky decision to make, but he did make it. I reckon he deserves the credit and sets a prime example that it’s not always wise to follow others in their footsteps.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

What skills are necessary when making decisions?

Well, there are quite a few skills we should master when making a decision. The first one is that we should have a clear vision of what the future is like once a decision is reached. To be precise, we must weigh the pros and cons as well as the worst-case scenarios of each option. Secondly, it is recommended that judging our own ability correctly is another skill which is usually ignored. We should be aware of our strengths and weaknesses before deciding whether to take risks.

How do you think computers will change the way people make decisions?

It is undoubted that computers have a big role to play in altering people’s minds in the decision-making process. In the past, people often rely on themselves or family members for advice when they are faced with some predicaments of life. However, with the advancement of technology, and the computer in particular, we can access a huge source of online information, hear different reviews or seek professional advice easily. This definitely gives us a clearer picture of the pros and cons to weigh before we reach our final decision.

Do you think that parents should make important decisions for their children?

It’s true that parents have previous experience and they often impose their viewpoints on their kids and sometimes urge them to follow their advice. However, the final decision should lie in the children themselves. This is simply because they are the ones who will take responsibility for their actions. So, a father’s or mother’s role here is to inform the young of the consequences they have to bear if a certain decision is made.
