– What brought about this positive change in your life?

SAMPLE ANSWER

‘A moment or an event can sometimes change our lives’. This saying was only a theoretical concept for me before I received the results of my 12th grade prelim exams in school. I was a happy- go- lucky person, and was not too dedicated to my studies despite all the constant prodding from parents and relatives. I received a lot of appreciation and compliments in my school life for my adaptability and my ability to understand and grasp study concepts.

I knew that I was in an important year, which would decide my future career. Still, I was taking it casually, and for me, it was all fun and games till I received the results of my preliminary exam just before a month and a half of my final board exams. I was shocked to see that I only received a 55% score in my main subjects. I remember feeling very sad, depressed, and frustrated; so much so, that I started cursing myself for my score, because I knew that if I had worked hard, I could have managed better results.

I wanted to hide from my friends, my teachers, and even my parents. When I went home, everyone was waiting for my results. I felt guilty and sorry on looking at their expectant eyes, because I knew that soon they would be unhappy. Tears started streaming from my eyes and I could not utter a word.

Seeing this, my father understood the situation. He sat with me and he explained to me that nothing was lost because I still had 45 days more to prepare, and that much time would in fact be enough for me to improve your results. He restored my confidence and motivated me to do as best as I could. I changed my attitude from that moment on, and worked to my best abilities in those 45 days before my final board exam. I was a little skeptical about the results as I waited for them, but in the End I scored a distinction in my 12th grade. I was really happy that day.

I took my parents’ blessings and conveyed my gratitude to my father. Had he not handled the situation well on the day I scored badly, I wouldn’t have got a good final result, which was a major stepping- stone for my career. I learned to be sincere and proactive about my studies, from that event and I scored well throughout my graduation years. That day was a turning point in my life.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Do you still consider it a positive change in your life, or not?

Yes, I still consider it a positive change in my life because I learned the importance of dedication from that moment on, which has proved helpful to me in all walks of my life.

How has it changed your life?

It has made dramatic changes in my life. I became sincere, dedicated, and proactive in my approach towards my studies, and other aspects of my life. This change in attitude helped me in sharpening my ability to work hard and adapt to situations, which ultimately increased my self- confidence. I also learned to be alert and receptive, and to take appreciation only as a part of life, so that I might not become overconfident about any aspect of my life again.

What are the social changes happening in your country?

There are many social changes happening in my country. Lifestyles, family systems, customs and traditions, and ways of celebrating festivals and ceremonies are undergoing major transformations. All these aspects of our society are being influenced by western culture. I think we are witnessing an important social transformation in the history of this country, which will bring many new changes in our social system in the future.
