IELTS SPEAKING INTERVIEW

PART – 1 INTRO

What is your full name?

My name is Gurleend Kaur.

How may I address you?

You may address me as Guleend.

Do you wear jeans?

Yes, I do. I usually wear jeans made with stretch fabric, because I am always chasing comfort and ease of movement. I can’t stand feeling trapped in my clothes. Always be comfortable so your light can shine.

How often do you wear jeans?

On a daily basis, I guess. I wear jeans with commitment and obsession. I really give them a workout. I tend to choose a pair that I like, then wear them every single day, until they feel like an extension of my body. I just can’t break the habit of choosing jeans as my main outfit of the day.

Do you like wearing jeans, why?

Yes, I do love wearing jeans a lot. I wear jeans because they are convenient. They go with everything, and are perfectly versatile. I travel often, and I like to pack light, so jeans are a great staple for mixing and matching.

Have you ever met a celebrity in real life?

Yes. I have seen Amitabh Bachan in the airport. But I didn’t make any effort to get an autograph from him. Sometimes I happen to sit next to film stars when I travel by air when they take the economy class. But I have not volunteered to talk to them.

Who is your favourite movie star?

Well, I’m a fan of Aishwarya Rai. She is a versatile actress, and I admired her from the very first movie. She is worth the Miss Universe title. My admiration increased after I watched her performance in the movie ‘Taal’.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Well, I have heard several stories from my grandmother during my childhood. And I have remembered one story from them. I like this story till now because it is a memorable as well as a motivational story. I explain it briefly.

According to this story, once a time a king named gurudas was lived in the big palace. He cared very much for other people. There was a minister named Raghu in his residence who worked for the king. One day, the king was cleaning his sword with a piece of cloth but unfortunately, one finger of the king’s hand had cut with the sword.

He was screaming with pain. But his minister Raghu said to a king to be patient as well as he told him a line that “whatever happens, happens for the goodness”.

King got very angry and threw Raghu into the prison. Then, once a day, the king went for hunting in the jungle and his companions went on other paths. King was alone in the thick and horrible jungle.

Suddenly, a few tribe people came there and caught the king into a net. Tribesmen took the king to their residence. Because they were finding a person to kill for the worship of their Goddess.

Then one tribe man saw a cut finger of the king and told their leader about it. Tribe Leader released to the king.

After this incident, the king recalled the words of his minister that “Whatever happens, happens for the goodness”. he felt very bad. He came back to his palace and ordered to release the minister from the prison. King apolozised to the minister for his misbehavior

All in all, whenever, I recall this story, It refills me with motivation and trust on God.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Has storytelling changed over a period of time?

Yes, definitely. Everything changes with time. My grandmother used to tell me stories from her memory, and had no book in her hand. Now, I see my sister reads out stories to her children from the various books she buys from the market. Telling stories to children has also largely been replaced by watching TV. Grandparents, parents and children are glued to the TV screen for long hours and there is no time left for story telling.

2. Which way is better, traditional storytelling or the use of technology in storytelling?

I believe the traditional method is much better. It has a personal touch and increases the bonding between parents or grandparents and children. Unfortunately, it is dying out and programmes like curious George and ChhotaBhim are taking its place.

3. Do you think that generally most of the people are good at storytelling?

It is very difficult to generalize and answer this question. One thing is sure, and that is that we all tell stories from time to time in our life. Some people are born story tellers and can bind their audiences for long periods of time. They can concoct stories on the spur of the moment. It is difficult to tell whether their stories are fake or real.
