Where are you from?

I am born and raised in Baroda.

Do you work or study?

I’m studying a bachelor’s degree in business administration at the moment at M.S. University here in Baroda.

Is cooking popular in your country?

Yes, I think it’s popular. Most young girls learn from their mother or grandmother how to cook the most popular dishes. In the past especially in the Indian context, man did not cook but I see there is a growing interest among the men also to cook something new and try their hands.

Would you like to learn how to cook?

Yes, by all means I would like to learn cooking.

Why do you want to learn cooking?

I am a big food lover or rather one can say quite a foodie, I enjoy different cuisines, and it’s not feasible to dine out every day so I would like to learn cooking and enjoy eating at home.

Do you think cooking programs on TV are useful?

Most assuredly, they’re very badly when somebody is trying to cook something new, one gets to see the complete recipe step by step. I watched many TV shows on cooking, and have learnt to cook many delicious dishes. After watching “Master Chef India”, I tried a few dishes only to mess them up initially but later on, I got better.

What is the advantage of a TV cooking program?

Sometimes when you try to cook the recipe from a book you are unsure if you’re cooking in the right way but when you see it being cooked in a particular manner it’s easier to pick up and then you have an exact idea of what the dish should look like.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Well, in Indian culture, it is very common for us to receive relatives, friends, and neighbors on many occasions. Here, I would to like talk about the day I turned 32 – 11th May. 2008. My wife had organized a surprise birthday party for me. It was a Sunday; and I had woken up early in the morning feeling good about the day.

However, to my surprise, I didn’t receive too many birthday wishes from my friends and relatives. While I found this unusual, I set through aside, and decide to plan a small celebration with my family members. I got ready, want to the temple, and prayed to the almighty as I do each year on my birthday. When I came back, I was surprised to see a large crowd of all my friends and relative waiting for me at home. Everyone welcomed me warmly and wished me a happy birthday.

At first I couldn’t believe my eyes, or understand what was going, on, but, when I saw my wife smiling at me, I realized that she had arranged everything secretly. I immediately thanked her; and then I cut the cake, received gifts, more warm wishes, and heartfelt blessings from my relatives, friend, and elders. After that, we all went for a small picnic at a club located on the outskirts of the city. All these arrangement had been made by my wife.

On reaching there, we played lots of outdoor and indoor games with each other. Then, we saw a movie in the theatre located within the club. This too, had been booked in advance by my wife. After watching the movie, we all enjoyed the dinner in the sprawling club lawns. The menu that night was laden with all my favorite dishes.

It was a day of happy surprises for me. I thanked my wife from the bottom of my heart for organized such a wonderful event, exclusively for me. I felt special, delighted, and grateful to everyone who came by to make it a memorial day for me.

PART – 3 FOLLOW UPS

Do you think the visit of the people is necessary on such occasions?

Yes, it is said that man is social animal. So, the company of other people in good and bad moment in life is necessary for most of us. The joy of a celebration multiplies when we celebrate occasion with other friends, family members, and relatives. Their presence actually makes the entire celebration more memorable, and enjoyable.

What did you feel when people visited your place?

Seeing to many people at my place on my birthday made me feel like I was on top of this world. Everyone was bestowing me with good wishes, greetings, and gifts. I was overwhelmed, seeing their emotions for me, and their joy on my behalf. I felt privileged, because I realized that there are many people who care for me, and are happy to participate in a celebration meant for my birthday.

Some people get important occasions recorded on my video. Do you think this is a good practice?

It is a good idea, provided we hire a professional videographer to record the occasion. We can view such video recording in future, when we want to refresh our memories. However, if we record videos ourselves, we often cannot enjoy the celebrations to the fullest, in real time. So, it is a good idea to hire someone to record important occasions. What’s more, a professional videographer can give us a very high quality video recording, as compared to an amateur.

What is more enjoyable, when it comes to reliving a memory, – a video recording of the occasion, or a photo album – and why?

I think, both are good medium for refreshing our memories. However, photo album are often handy, and can be seen anywhere, anytime, whereas video recording can only be seen on television or on a computer, making it a little more cumbersome to view them.
