PART – 1 INTRO

Do you currently live in a house or a flat / apartment?
I’m living in an apartment that is fully furnished and has all the mod cons. I share my bedroom with another person, and we have been living there for over one year.
Are street markets common in your country?
Yes. They exist everywhere, and Vietnamese people go to street markets daily. What is usually sold there? Well, you can find trendy clothes at a reasonable price in any street market in Vietnam.
Do you think people like street markets? Why?
I think people enjoy street markets since they are ideal places to let off steam and bargain with sellers to get a discount.
Where do you usually take a walk?
Well, I don’t walk in any particular place. I like to walk with my friends to the park sothat we can talk and feel less exhausted on the way.

Describe a time when you were appreciated for something you did.

I try to help out people without seeking any appreciation or any other things in return. And, it is, of course, our human nature to appreciate the help, even though, not all of us show or display their appreciation explicitly. But, today, I would like to talk about a time when someone explicitly appreciated me for my assistance.
It happened about a few years ago, and my neighbour, Kim Lee, needed to leave the city for a few days in order to see his ailing grandmother.
To introduce Kim, he could easily be considered as one of the nicest neighbours one could ever hope for, and he lived with his family a couple of blocks away from my house in the same neighbourhood. Kim used to own and run his own small super shop which I used to visit almost every other day in order to buy different kinds of stuff. So, we had a very warm relationship with each other. Thus, when he asked me to watch after his house for a few days, I just couldn’t refuse.

Kim told me what exactly needed to be done, including picking up the newspapers from his front lawn every morning, helping his employees to open and close his super shop and turning the lights on of his house during the evening. He also asked me to spend a couple of hours at his house every day, if possible, and keep the “heater” in his house turned on in order to keep his house warm, as it was really cold at that time.
Anyway, Kim left the city after giving me the instructions. But, when he came back after visiting his old and seriously ill grandmother, he didn’t forget to thank me with a very big smile on his happy face.
Even though I wasn’t exactly looking for any kind of appreciation from my neighbour, I felt really great and useful after his words of appreciation. I also felt that a little token of appreciation for our good deeds, from the people around us, would take our relationship even farther, a really long way.

Do you like helping others?
Yes, I like helping others. I feel very happy when I can be of any help to anyone. Whenever any person comes to me for help, I do my best to help that person.
Q2. In your view should children be taught to help others?
Yes, children student should be taught to help others. They should be made to realize that if today they will help others, then tomorrow they will get help if they need help.
Q3. How can we encourage children to help others?
We can encourage children to help others by setting an example. If they see their elders helping others they will automatically learn to help others.
Q4. Do you think people are less willing to help others these days compared to the past?
Yes, I think so. Today’s life is very fast. People have become workaholics. They have become self centered. They have no time to help others.
Q5. Do people trust others as much as they used to in the past?
No, I do not think so. My parents and grandparents tell me that life was simpler and slower in the past. People trusted each other. Today, it is very difficult to find people whom you can trust.
