How often do you use a computer?

Oh, I’m on my laptop at least 6 hours a day! As online IELTS instructor, it is invaluable. I use a laptop for everything from planning lessons to teaching over Zoom.  Not only do I use it for work, I also use it to keep in touch with my relatives living abroad. Right now, I’m living in Vietnam while my family live in Ireland, so I contact them by email or facebook messenger.

Do you think it is important to learn how to use a computer?

Definitely, nowadays computer literacy is vital.  A few decades ago, it was essential that one could read, write and do basic math. Although, these skills are still incredibly important, nowadays, I would say the ability to use various devices is even more valuable.

Do you have your own computer?

Fortunately, I do. I bought a laptop a few years ago. I choose to purchase a Macbook Pro as I’d heard lots of good reviews about that model. Because it cost a fortune, I was hesitant at first. I suppose this was because it was the latest model and included some cutting-edge features. However, I’ve had it for more than 3 years and it hasn’t shown any signs of age so I would definitely recommend this model to my friends.

How often do you cut your hair?

I tend to have my hair trimmed every three or four weeks. I used to have longer hair but it’s pretty short at the moment so it’s important that I get it cut regularly. Otherwise it looks messy and unprofessional. I usually go to a small barber shop that’s close to my house. The barbers there are really talented, I’d trust them with my life!

Why do people like to dye their hair?

As I see it, there are two main reasons people choose to have their hair dyed. First of all, everyone needs a change from time to time! I mean, people get bored of the same old colour. Actually, I’ve noticed that many young ladies have begun dying their hair bright colours like blue and pink. It’s a trend that seems to be catching on! Secondly, elderly people, both men and women tend to dye their hair to avoid looking old. I guess grey isn’t a youthful colour.

I’d like to describe an art display I’ve seen. A couple of years ago I went to a local art exhibition at an art gallery in Brisbane with a friend.

At the gallery many local artists displayed their works and there were many people there viewing the art. Many of the art works were acrylic paintings, others were oil paintings. There was also an even mix of darker and lighter tones in the art pieces on display and most of the art was of cityscapes or landscapes. Many of the paintings on display were from young up and coming artists trying to make a name for themselves in the industry.

There was a stark contrast of styles of paintings too. Some of the paintings featured bright daylight scenes, others were of night scenes. Some also featured heavy shadows set against a bright backdrop of either bright street light or bright sunshine.

The art gallery was quite full of people, and everyone who entered was well dressed as there was a dress code. Many people viewing the art seemed like they were quite wealthy and from a higher social class. Some people also seemed to be very knowledgeable about art and in particular this type of art as I could overhear some of them talking amongst themselves.

There were also staff going around offering people glasses of red and white Australian wine as well as pieces of cheese and canapés so the atmosphere felt very relaxing. Inside the art gallery it was very modern and dark and all of the art pieces were displayed on walls with special lighting surrounding each piece to bring out the best features of every painting.

There were too many pieces of art on display so we didn’t have time to view all of the pieces but after a few hours we thought we’d seen enough. By the end of the day we both felt quite tired. Many of the more expensive pieces of art were quickly snapped up by professional art collectors and dealers who were bidding for the art online.

In general I felt it was a very eye-opening experience even though I didn’t end up buying any paintings as most of them came with quite hefty price tags.

How could art exhibitions attract more visitors?

Art exhibitions can be conducted on holidays so more people are free to visit. They can also arrange membership for regular visitors and art enthusiasts.

Are art exhibitions popular in your country?

There are people who enjoy artwork who also are ready to spend money to buy good artworks that they like. So art exhibitions are popular, especially in cities.

Do you think people should have to pay to visit art exhibitions?

Conducting an exhibition costs money and it is necessary to manage all the exhibitions. If the fee charges are reasonable people will come and visit the exhibition.

How will art exhibitions change in the future?

The exhibitions in future might get more engaging and interactive. People will spend more time and money at the exhibition. But some people who want to buy artworks may also look for buying it online as more things are being made available online.
