How is the noise level in your city?

Well, there is a great hustle and bustle in my city because people mostly use their own vehicles to move pillar to post and it is very difficult to get a sigh of relief in this noise.

Where does noise in urban areas come from?

Well, there are many sources where the noise comes from, like from factories, vehicles, the local market, and sometimes the noise comes from the street vendors, who sell their products. So there is a great commotion in the city.

Do you think it is important to be alone sometimes?

Yes, it is very important to be alone sometimes because people can concentrate on what they want to really achieve and what strategies they should adopt, and many times, it happens that people are not aware of their aim. So it is best to know oneself when one is alone.

How often do you take the bus?

Well, I don’t catch the bus regularly as I don’t work outside. If I go to my maternal mother’s home, then I really go via bus; otherwise, I prefer my own vehicle to move from one place to another. It depends on the length of the destination. If it’s too long, then I prefer to go by car otherwise I prefer to go by bus.

When was the first time you took a taxi?

Well, I don’t vividly remember, but if I put pressure on my mind, then it might be the occasion of my cousin’s wedding in Chandigarh. I think that time, I took a taxi from Sector 43 to sector 17. Otherwise, I prefer to go in my own vehicle because it is more convenient than hiring a taxi.

What are the advantages of taking a taxi compared with buses?

Haring a taxi is more advantageous than going by bus because people can conveniently travel in a taxi and reach the destination on time. While traveling by bus is a tiring activity and moreover, there is a great rush on a bus. Sometimes, people don’t get a seat, and it stops at many stations.

Up until recently, I have always felt that the nature of a workplace doesn’t necessarily affect the speed and spirit of a worker. But, I had to change my mind about it after visiting an “ideal” workplace of my friend the other day. Anyway, while the experience of visiting this extraordinary workplace of my friend was remarkable, I would like to describe my own “dream” workplace here.

IELTS Speaking Test

My dream workplace would preferably be located near a lake and surrounded by trees. I would also like it to be on one of the top floors and, geographically close to everything except, of course, the unnecessary traffic congestion and noise. My office should also have two desks – one would be facing away from a large glass window (from where the lake is visible) so that I could interact with the people who come to visit me. The other desk, on which, I would have my computers, printers, and the other essentials, would be placed against a wall (or maybe even a corner of a small hallway) where the real work would get done.

Moreover, a couch, of course, would face the lake, but rotate to face the flat-screen TV, scratch that. The Couch faces the lake, and when I want to watch TV, the window is covered by a drop-down wall with the TV inside of it. I’d also have a bed so that I could stay the night comfortably when necessary. Other facilities at my dream workplace may also include a kitchen, a gym, and a large open space in which we could sing “karaoke”. Finally, I would like to have an attached restroom so that I can refresh myself whenever necessary and that restroom should be large enough.

Anyway, even though I am an “average” professional, I do dream that one day, I will be able to work in such a dream workplace, which I just described above. And, all I need to do for that is to convince my company about the benefits of having such a workplace. But, even if that opportunity is never arranged for me by others, I would certainly try my best to create one myself when I start my own business sometimes in the distant future.

What is the best way to deal with workplace politics?

The best way to deal with workplace politics is by minding your own business, avoiding such conflicts and conversations, and being a part of it.

What are some things most workplaces do to promote teamwork and a positive work environment?

The human resource managers mostly conduct certain activities and have little competition apart from their professional aspect of the business, creating a sense of unity and cohesiveness among the team members.

How do companies help employees achieve a healthy work-life balance?

Nowadays, companies encourage employees to take leave and grant the rest quickly. They reward the employee whenever they feel that the person has done something for the company that was of great benefit.

Apart from that, they have created specific opportunities for the employees to work at their level of ease, and people are working from home as well. Some people have taken part-time jobs, and some are working night shifts because it is feasible for them. So, the work culture has improved over time.

How do you handle workplace conflicts or disagreements with co-workers or superiors?

If I disagree to a point where my seniors agree, I will try to consider their point of view because they have more experience than me, and I will try to know the rationale behind their thinking or their logic.

So if my point is correct and theirs is wrong, then I will convey my point at least once, and after that, it depends on where the conversation leads further.
