IELTS Speaking Test

Is there anything being polluted in your hometown?

Absolutely. As the industry and economy are on the rise (increasing), more and more factories are showing up, causing air pollution. Moreover, as people’s salaries have increased, more people can afford their personal vehicles, which worsens this problem. Furthermore, there is waste dumped (thrown into) in the bodies of water, causing water pollution. Lastly, as there are many new construction projects and traffic jams, noise pollution is also on the rise.

What are the common types of pollutions in the countryside?

As many of the factories are built in rural areas, they are a cause of air pollution in the countryside. Moreover, the use of pesticides (chemicals to keep bugs and animals away from plants) and chemical fertilizers (chemicals added to make soil stronger) in farming does not help this problem. Furthermore, some people dispose of their personal waste into bodies of water, causing water pollution.

IELTS Speaking Test

What are the causes of those pollutions?

Although there are many different factors to these complex (complicated with many parts) problems, I will talk about a few. I would say that the cause of these pollutions is due to industry, such as the factories. Moreover, farming contributes to this problem, as there is a high demand to have enough food for the increasing population. Lastly, water pollution stems from (starts from) poor waste management systems in rural areas, as well as ineffective operation of waste treatment facilities.

Have you ever done anything to help the environment?

I could definitely do more! However, I think that small actions do count.  I always carry my trash home with me to throw away if there isn’t a public garbage bin available. I would feel so guilty blatantly littering! Moreover, I choose to ride my bicycle or walk when transportation isn’t needed. Lastly, I opt (choose) to not get a plastic bag when they are unnecessary in stores.

I recall a conflict I experienced at work concerning project prioritization and resource allocation. The nature of the conflict arose from differing opinions on which project should receive priority due to limited resources.

IELTS Speaking Test

The conflict occurred primarily because each department had its priorities and deadlines to meet. Our team, responsible for software development, believed that a particular project required immediate attention to meet a client’s urgent needs. However, the marketing team argued for allocating resources to a different project that they believed would have a higher impact on revenue generation in the long term.

At the time of the conflict, I felt a mix of frustration and pressure. It was challenging to balance the immediate client demands with the long-term strategic goals of the company. There was also a sense of urgency because delays in decision-making could affect both client satisfaction and revenue targets.

To resolve the conflict, I took a proactive approach. First, I facilitated a meeting involving key stakeholders from both teams to openly discuss and understand each side’s perspectives. This helped clarify the underlying reasons and priorities driving each project. We used data on client deadlines, revenue projections, and resource availability to make an informed decision.

During the meeting, I ensured that everyone had a chance to voice their concerns and suggestions. We collaboratively evaluated the potential impact and risks associated with each project. Ultimately, we reached a consensus to temporarily allocate more resources to the client-facing project to meet immediate deadlines, while also devising a phased approach to ensure the marketing project received sufficient attention shortly afterward.

Following the resolution, I felt relieved that we had found a balanced solution that addressed both short-term and long-term objectives. It reinforced the importance of effective communication, collaboration, and data-driven decision-making in resolving conflicts at work.

IELTS Speaking Test

Why do you think the conflict occurred?

The conflict occurred primarily due to miscommunication and differing perceptions of workload distribution. Some team members believed they were taking on more responsibilities than others, leading to feelings of frustration and inequity.

How did you feel at the time of the conflict?

During the conflict, I felt a sense of tension and concern. I was worried about the impact of the conflict on team dynamics and the overall success of the project. There was also a bit of stress because resolving the issue promptly was crucial to maintaining productivity and morale.

IELTS Speaking Test

What actions did you take to resolve the conflict?

To resolve the conflict, I initiated a team meeting where we openly discussed our individual roles, responsibilities, and perceptions of the workload. I encouraged everyone to share their perspectives and concerns in a constructive manner. We identified specific tasks and deadlines, ensuring clarity on who was responsible for each aspect of the project. By addressing misunderstandings and redistributing tasks based on team members’ strengths and availability, we were able to alleviate tensions and improve collaboration.

What was the outcome of the conflict resolution?

The outcome was positive as we reached a mutual understanding and agreement on how to distribute the workload more equitably. Clear communication and a shared commitment to the project’s success helped restore trust and cohesion within the team. Subsequently, we were able to meet project deadlines effectively and achieve our goals collaboratively.

IELTS Speaking Test

What did you learn from this experience?

From this experience, I learned the importance of proactive communication and addressing issues promptly before they escalate. It reinforced the value of listening to different viewpoints and finding solutions that benefit the entire team. Moving forward, I became more mindful of ensuring transparency in workload distribution and fostering a supportive team environment.
