Writing Task 2 (AC+GT):-

Older people often say that their life was better in the past than it is now. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Sample Answer:-

As people get old they cherish the sweet memories of their childhood, adolescence, and youth and claim that those days were better than the present. This essay partially agrees to the view expressed by old people even through such a view is influenced by their inability to cope with modern changes and trends.

To begin with, despite advancement in science and medicine, old age is not free from troubles to many people. The best example to illustrate this point is that some old people are not productive. With physical and mental traumas on the increase, some old people are dependent on others. Under such circumstances, it is only natural that old people feel isolated. However, some old people are very active. By following a healthy lifestyle, they keep fit. Many old people engaging in business and charitable activities serve* a good example. Even such energetic and productive old people are nostalgic and there is nothing wrong with it.

Another noteworthy aspect of the issue is that nowadays, old people have better living conditions. With the improvements in technology and medicine, treatment is available for several debilitating (=weaken) conditions. Improved sanitation facilities are of immense help. The existence of several charitable organizations taking care of the elderly an best illustrates how better facilities old people enjoy today. Despite all these, some old people keep on complaining because of conditioning although this is not entirely the fault of any particular individual.

In conclusion, old age is full of care. To be nostalgic is in human nature. To tolerate the elderly in the evenings of their lives and to do the best to ameliorate (=make/become better) their plight is what society can do for old people.

IELTS Speaking full Interview:-

PART – 1 Intro Part

What is your full name?

My name is Sunita Jagtap.

Can I see your ID?

Of course, here is my ID card.

Where are you from?

I am originally from Ratnagari, but now I live in Mumbai.

Do you work or study?

I am working at the moment.

What do you do for a job?

I am working as an accountant at a school here.

Do you like your job?

Yes, I do because it is very interesting, and I learn a lot of new things from any seniors in the staff and sometimes from the teachers, too. Moreover, I happen to talk to children there every day, which is very joyful as I love children.

What responsibilities do you have at work?

I am a sales associate with Wal-Mart. I do multiple jobs. I place the order of those electronic items that are running low or on the cusp (=verge) of running out sooner. I replenish (=restock) the products, maintain sales records for inventory control and look after the register (=cash register, cash box [North American]) at times too. I also help in display of merchandise. There are many other responsibilities that I perform but these are the primary ones.

What is your typical day like in work?

During the week, we’ve moderate business activities and that’s how the retail industry behaves. As the weekend approaches, the footfalls increase manifold and it becomes a fast-paced job. During weekends, I hardy have time to breathe or even look up the face of the customer. It is an eight-hour standing job and sometimes I get tired of standing, too. We get three breaks: the lunch break for 30 minutes and two 15-minute breaks for refreshment.

Would you like to change your job in the future?

Not in near future really because I cannot risk leaving this job at the moment. I’ve bills to pay and have no other income stream to support myself financially. But definitely one fine day I’ll leave this job for my own start-up. I want to start a small business of my own. You take pressure while working, then why not you take the same pressure for your own start-up.

What would you like to change about your job?

The company’s policy is to rotate employees around the different sections and I completely understand that why they do so. They want every employee to be well-versed with each department and to get familiarized with a wide range of products. By doing this, they manufacture future managers and supervisors. It may have positive outcomes in the long run for the company. However, I’ve a contrarian view (=rejecting current practice) about this process. I would like to see employees taking care of those sections in which they are good at rather than a forced rotation.

PART – 2 Cue Card

Describe your favorite bird

  • Name of the bird
  • Where and when you see it
  • Why you like it

Sample Answer:-

Birds are a beautiful creation of nature. They are helpful to us in many ways. It is difficult to say which bird is my most favorite but here I would like to speak about the national bird of my country, ‘Peacock’. I like peacock because it is one of the most beautiful birds found in my country. It is large bird that cannot fly very high in the sky. It can only jump a few meters above the ground. It is found in all parts of the country but it prefers remote areas to live. They are also found in cities in grounds, gardens and farms where human interference is minimum. Peacocks live on insects, flowers and fruits. Peacock has a beautiful bunch of feathers at its back. Its feathers are colorful and also considered holy as per Hindu mythology because lord Krishna used to wear peacock’s feather in his crown. Peacock also has a crown on its head that makes it the king of birds. In addition we can also find white peacocks in some parts of my country. White peacocks look even more gorgeous and stunning attractive. In monsoon season, peacocks dance in rain and spread all their feathers to attract peahens (female peacocks that don’t have feathers like male peacocks). This sight of dancing peacock is a wonderful scene to watch. Peacock also has a melodious sound that they use to call their group. They make their sound more at sunrise and sunset.

PART – 3 Discussion

Is bird watching a useful activity or a waste of time?

Bird watching is a fascinating activity for those who have an interest in it. But, I admit that it is a waste of time for most people. However, we should be thankful to birdwatchers who provide amazing information and documentaries on birds so that we can know some interesting facts about one of the most beautiful and living creation of nature.

Do birds give any message?

Birds give a message to enjoy our life to the fullest by living in the present. Most birds are always active and playful. They give us the same message to us to be diligent and remain playful and not stressful. This is the reason, when we see any bird doing its natural activities, we feel fresh and relaxed.

Should we eat bird meat? Or should we consume bird products?

I am against all bird products. We must avoid such products as much as possible because we have no right to kill any bird to satisfy our needs. However, some people justify this as essential in some regions where vegetarian food sources are in short supply. I think we should always think about the survival of birds also when we argues about our survival. Apart from this, many people kill birds just for fun or an exciting activity. They also eat and use bird products for a novelty in their routine life. I assert that such killing of birds should be banned.

Should we keep birds in our house?

We can keep the bird in house if it gets familiar and intimate to the members. Also we should take care of the bird as long as it wants to live with us in the house. But, we must not confine any bird to a cage for our personal reasons. Birds also share equal right to live a life of freedom.

Have you had any memorable experience with birds?

I don’t have any personal experience with birds. However, a friend of mine had a parrot at his home that once saved his house from theft. One night, two thieves broke into my friend’s house where the parrot made some noise to alert my friend and his family members. All members of his family then woke up and caught those thieves.
