The bar chart below shows the percentage of students who passed their high school competency exams, by subject and gender, during the period 2010-2011. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

SAMPLE ANSWER

The chart illustrates the proportion of men and women students who passed in seven different subjects in their high school competency examination between 2010 and 2011. It can be seen that, in the figure both male and female students outperformed in computer science, foreign languages and mathematics, and overall, female students did best in every subject except in geography.

In details, there was 56.3 percent female students who passed in computer sciences, compared to 42.1 percent of male students. This was the highest passing rates noted in all subjects. Furthermore, in foreign languages and mathematics there was only 1% difference in the percentage of both gender. In these two subjects with approximately 47 percent of students who passed the competency exam.

In physics, the percentage of male student who passed the exam was 34.5 percent, and slightly higher in female at 36.7 percent. Moreover, male students outperformed in geography with 30.3 percent and about 10 percent less than for female students. Also, it is noticeable that the passing rates in chemistry and history was lower than 31 percent compared to other subjects in both gender.
