IELTS Writing Task 2

In contemporary Indian society, the dynamics of marriages are evolving, and the role of each partner in contributing to the family’s financial well-being has become a topic of discussion. I am inclined to agree that it is the shared responsibility of both spouses to earn a living for the family.

Firstly, economic independence is crucial in today’s competitive world. With the rising cost of living and the complexity of financial commitments, relying solely on one income may pose challenges. When both partners contribute financially, it not only ensures a more stable economic foundation but also provides a sense of security and shared responsibility.

Moreover, shared financial responsibilities foster a sense of equality and partnership within the marriage. Traditional gender roles that assign earning as primarily the husband’s duty are increasingly seen as outdated. Embracing the idea of both spouses contributing to the family income promotes a more balanced and egalitarian relationship.

However, it is vital to acknowledge the diversity of family structures and individual preferences. While shared financial responsibilities may work for some couples, others may opt for different arrangements based on their unique circumstances.

In conclusion, I believe that, to a large extent, it is the responsibility of both spouses to contribute to the family’s financial well-being. This not only addresses the practical aspects of modern living but also promotes equality and collaboration within marriages.
