WRITING TASK 2 (AC+GT):-

Directors of large companies often receive much bigger salary increases than ordinary workers. Employers’ organization says that in a global market this is necessary to attract the best management talent. Can this be tolerated?

SAMPLE ANSWER:-

Since management means the effective utilization of time, finance and resources to achieve specific targets, key personnel are of much importance. As such, the enormously high remuneration paid to the directors of large companies can be justified. However, the pay and allowances of the personnel should also be of global standards to avoid discontent among employees, which could ruin the entire business.

Undoubtedly, managers earning handsome salary and perquisites and ordinary workers struggling to make both ends meet may come into cash. The big difference in salary packages makes* the atmosphere less conductive for the effective functioning of an organization. Non-managerial staff in general, for example, is likely to be discontent, less co-operative and even rebellious. Many managers try to keep workers at a distance, making the situation worse. The active co-operative of workers is* essential for the success of any business firm. Discontented (=dissatisfied) workers can adversely affect productivity.

Moreover, managers are generally keen on making only their position safe. There are examples of CEOs who have decided ordinary workers, customers and shareholders. The collapse of a few giant MNCs recently explains* such as situation vividly. In order to retain their lucrative jobs (=a job which pays high salary) managers sometimes decide* to lay off ordinary workers, causing needled difficulties to all, including customers.

Overall, since both the employers and employees have the right to live with dignity, companies must offer decent remuneration to both the categories. As teamwork is the buzzword today, a business venture can be successful only when the needs of both managerial staff and other employees are taken into consideration.
