WRITING TASK 2 (AC+GT)

In some countries children have very strict rules of behavior, in other countries; they are allowed to do almost anything they want. To what extent should children have to follow rules?

SAMPLE ANSWER

It is in the developing nations that children have rigid norms of conduct. In the progressive, developed countries, children are allowed a lot more freedom and they can do almost anything they like. This essay looks closer into these aspects so as to assess as to what extent they should follow rules, to be worthy citizens of the world.

To begin with, parents are the people who introduce their children to the outside world. With ample love and care, they must instruct their children how to behave. Corporal punishment is far from being the right way to discipline children. To bring up a child is not a child’s play. This process requires patience and persistence.

Moreover, children have no ill will towards anyone, they are free from malice, they make friends quickly, and they forget and forgive fast. They learn things by doing and in the process engage in destruction. It is only natural. Parents and adults behaving as strict disciplinarians are uncongenial for the proper development of children. This will make children fearful and fear is the worst enemy of an individual. It thwarts the development of good qualities such as assertiveness, self-confidence and self-esteem.

However, giving children the license to do anything is dangerous in many ways. Today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens. Obeying rules is of great importance in society. Indiscipline will lead to chaos, confusion and anarchy. Anarchy leads to complete destruction.

In short, children are the promises of the morrow. Adult members of the society expecting children to behave as ladies and gentlemen is meaningless. Making them understand and obey rules slowly but steadily is the best way of bringing them up.
