The exploration and development of safe alternatives to fossil fuels should be the most important global priority today. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer.
SAMPLE ANSWER
Fossil fuels are sources of energy that have developed within earth’s crust over millions of years and our dependence on them is a big issue. It is generally believed Discovery and development of alternative eco-friendly forms of energy should be the topic of global concern. In my opinion, I completely agree that searching for substitutes of non-renewable must be a priority.
Formation of fossil fuels takes a long period of time and are on the verge of depletion due to continual exploitation. for example, as per the recent data revealed by the department of energy, USA, it is clear abundant supplies of fossil fuels will end, bringing down the economic order with it.
At current rates of production, oil and gas will run out in about 55 years and coal in 110. majority of oil fields (situated in the Middle East) in the world are associated with problems both political and economic. Determining a new method or solution with respect to finding different countries to create new fuels would reduce the unrest and conflict resulting from the world’s dependence on fuel supply from the Middle East.
Another reason that emphasizes the need for clean renewable sources of energy is the threat to the environment caused by the use of fossil fuels. During the combustion process, a variety of emissions and particulates, including ash, are released into the atmosphere. Primary releases are sulfur, nitrogen, and carbon, which can be harmful to the environment. Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that is believed to be a key factor in global climate change. There are also environmental risks associated with extracting, transporting, and utilizing fossil fuels.
In conclusion, to deal with the reducing reserves of fossil fuels and the impact of fossil fuels on the environment, eco-friendly replacements of non-renewable energy resource need to be a prime concern.
