Every generation of people is different in important ways. How is your generation different from your parents’ generation?
SAMPLE ANSWER
It is quite certain that every generation is different from its parents’ generation in significant aspects and my generation is not an exception. Everything undergoes changes over a period of time and these changes take place due to economic, social and scientific factors. This essay is an attempt to explain some of these changes, which make my generation unique (= having no comparisons from the previous one.
Firstly, in term of scientific achievements, my generation lives in an amazing world of technology. My parents’ generation was familiar with motor generation vehicles, radio, television and movie but the widespread application of computers and computer aided devices makes* my generation much different. In giving and getting knowledge, in preventing, diagnosing and treating disease we find the exclusive influence of computer and internet.
Secondly, in terms of economics, while some jobs are vanishing, (= disappearing) jobs promoted by the new inventions and discoveries are taking their place. To some, economic hardships area stark reality, while the number of billionaires is on the increase. The economically well-off enjoy luxuries, which even kings of the bygone days could not visualise.
Thirdly, in social terms, discrimination’s (= differentiate and ill-treat) in various fields are diminishing to some extent. For example, more and more girls get good education and, consequently. women’s representation in almost all professions is now becoming acceptable. However, it is a misfortune that communalism (= extreme views on the basis of religion) and terrorism are making life miserable in different parts of the world.
An in-depth study of the generation gap shows that change is a natural phenomenon and, dilly, my generation has its differences from that of my parents. Some of these are acceptable while some others are creating their own share of problems, which mankind will have to confront.
