First of all let us recapitulate what summary question type actually is. Basically,in the reading part,you will be given a summary of material from a text, with a few gaps.You will be given a list of words to fill in the blanks, or you may be asked to locate solutions from the reading text. You will need to fill in the spaces with words from the text.The reading text will have all of the  information in the synopsis.They will, however, use paraphrase and synonyms.As a result, you  should not expect to locate the precise wording.

Now let’s have a discussion on how to solve this question type of summary. Given below are some of the strategies and tips which you can make use of while doing your summary completion questions.

  Carefully read the entire question- The first tip is to have a cautious and proper understanding of the question that you need to answer. Make a note of how many words you will need to write (usually one, two, or three) and if the words may be obtained from the reading list or the text.

  Go through the options in the list- In case if you have a list of options in your summary questions then after reading the questions, the next step is that you should observe the options and classify them into different categories. For instance , first of all you can categorise which of the questions are nouns or which of the questions are verbs.

Other than that , you can also go and search for singular and plural nouns in your list of options. By doing this, when you will read the question and try to figure out the hints whether they are based upon either helping verbs or articles or the tenses of your sentence, you will easily be able to find your options from a list of shortlisted ones.   Guesswork-  The other tip for you can prediction or guesswork. Try to predict the answers before looking at the reading material. In addition, consider the sort of term (adjective, verb, or noun) that must be included. Also, try to guess which answer would fit in if you have a list of words. Do not forget to take note of any terms that may collocate with the words in the phrase.

Always remember to be cautious while using synonyms. Last but not the least always check to see if your words are grammatically correct.
