5 Tips to boost your Speaking Confidence in Speaking

IELTS is an exam which is designed to judge your level in English and this exam is so beautifully planned that the result accurately tells the position where you stand in the language. In this exam every aspect of the language is judged i.e. Writing, Listening, Reading and Speaking. Talking specifically about Speaking it is divided in three parts where your different questions are asked and your speaking skill is seen. The common factor that influences all the parts of the test is your confidence. If you are confident than you will be able to speak fluently and to the point and get good scores. So in today’s article we will discuss about 5 tips to boost your speaking confidence in IELTS Speaking.

1. Remember during the IELTS Speaking exam you need to talk much more than examiner does. The way to do this is to develop your answers. For example you get question. Do you have brother or sisters? Don’t say no. I don’t. You could say, I am only a child but I have cousins. When I was little we spent lot of time together. So always remember, you shouldn’t give point to point answer in cue card. You need to elaborate it to cover up the all build points.

2. In part 2 you don’t have to speak about all four bullet points if you want you can speak about them as it’s not a problem to speak about all four bullet points. But you should not speak in order of the bullets because this grabs your freedom to create a different strategy and ideas. These bullet points are designed to help you and just to give you ideas of on what topic you are going to speak. So, what the strategy that you should use? There are two things which help you to speak for 2 minutes on the given topic as fluently and as coherently as possible. If you don’t understand any one bullet point. Then skip that one. Add something else on that place. Also try to add lots of information in the bullet point to maintain the length of the topic.

3. You can’t able to think very clearly as time absolutely flies. Therefore you can’t write down much at all. It is the kind of been stumped by the task card and spend about 20 seconds actually just thinking of something. For this just read the cue card and write down about that for what topic you are going to describe. After writing about the topic take a deep breath and relax and start to speak about that. Also do practice at home to manage the 1 minute for the preparation. Developing ideas is a skill that comes through practice as in practice sessions you learn how to prepare cue cards.

4. To develop your speaking get the topic probably let’s say about the six questions for that topic and take your mobile phone and answer the question recording your voice. It is very important that you do the recording rather than writing the answers. When you write the answers usually you think more about the grammar, vocabulary, ideas, and connectors this consume the lots of time and when you speak it’s direct without any expressions. Moreover, you are not able to speak exactly that you write down on your notebook. So when you record your answers this give you a chance to find your weakness because it’s very important to find your weaknesses in order to improve them.

5.  A lot of people speak for two minutes in an organized coherent way but it’s not much easy even for native speakers. So it is suggested to make a story in cue card as creating an image in your mind allows to offer very specific vocabulary. You can raise your vocabulary scores and also increases your pronunciation scores because when you tell a story you become more emotive. You use your emotions more. So, you need to describe a story in part 2.
