Homes Vocabulary - Part 2

Tenant – a person who pays rent for the use of land or a building.

Sentence – The tenant is legally required to indemnify the landlord for any damage caused to the property.

Rent – a fixed amount of money that you pay regularly for the use of a room, house, car, television, etc. that someone else owns.

Sentence – I pay a higher rent/more rent than the other tenants because my room is bigger.

Lease – to make a legal agreement by which money is paid in order to use land, a building, a vehicle, or a piece of equipment for an agreed period of time.

Sentence – Don’t try so hard, the best things come when you lease expect them to.

Neighborhood – the area of a town that surrounds someone’s home, or the people who live in this area.

Sentence – Kids in his neighborhood clipped his picture from the newspaper and carried it around.

 Refrigerator – a piece of kitchen equipment that uses electricity to preserve food at a cold temperature.

Sentence – Perishable food should be stored in a refrigerator.

 Microwave – an electric oven that uses waves of energy to cook or heat food quickly.

Sentence – All our holiday chalets include a microwave and food processor for extra convenience.

 Sofa – a long, soft seat with a back and usually arms, on which more than one person can sit at the same time.

Sentence – My four year-old daughter was asleep on the sofa.

Hallway – an entrance hall.

Sentence – She climbed the steps and proceeded along the upstairs hallway.

 Insurance – an agreement in which you pay a company money and they pay your costs if you have an accident, injury, etc.

Sentence – If suggested improvements are not carried out, we have the right to suspend the insurance cover.
