How much time do I need to prepare for IELTS?

The first question that comes in the mind of student when he start preparing for IELTS is How much time do I need to prepare for IELTS? Or what is the ideal time period in which I can prepare IELTS and appear in the exam. Well the answer for this question depends on some factors which is discussed below-

What’s your level of English when you start?

The first thing is, at the starting point what the level of your English is. If you are highly expert in language, you might take a month or even less than it to prepare for the exam. Skilled English users will only need to brush up their studies on test strategy, question types and pattern. All these things can be easily learned within one month.

On the other hand, if you are not an expert of Language so you can take long time to overcome the test. For example if you are facing problem to read and understand IELTS reading passages or audio tracks of listening test, you will need quite a long time take the time to boost your skills. Talking about the speaking skills if you don’t speak English fluently or find difficulty to find suitable vocabulary to express your views than also you will have to devote plenty of time to improve your language.

Another thing that influence your time period is your speed of grasping and learning things. As you know everyone have their own pace of learning things so if you are good in griping things you will take less time to prepare for IELTS. Still, there are ways to guess at how long you might need to study. A good idea to know how long you should study is to take a practice IELTS test and see how many bands you score. If you lack by one band that means you need one month of preparation. This formula can be implemented for further improvement that means if you want to get 3 ore bands than your current scores than you have to prepare for three months. Means one month for increasing one band. Whatever the circumstances you should not feel stressed and carry on with preparation tips.

How much time you give yourself to prepare for IELTS on daily basis?

Another main factor is the time you spend per day to prepare for IELTS exam. Everyone have their own responsibilities and works which can be an obstacle in the way of preparation. Anyhow let’s see the calculations for your study time.

For example if you study IELTS for five hours a week, and your aim is to  raise one band than you have to study for two or three months. If you devote 10 to 15 hours a week, than you might take a little more than a month to increase your score by a band. Once you start getting into the 20 plus range, a month per band may be all the time you need as you work to raise your IELTS score.

Now, it’s hard to raise your score by more than one band in a month no matter how much time you have. Prolonged practice is always necessary to improve second language skill. That being said, if you are one of the lucky IELTS preparers who has 40 hours a week to study for the exam, you just might be able to go up a band in less than a month. Likewise, if your language skills are good as is, the test strategy skills that you’ll need to boost your IELTS score could be mastered in three or even two weeks. Anyhow, there are some tips that can help you to prepare for exam quickly.

Thank You 🙂
