First thing you should do is to read the statement carefully and figure out the type of topic given. In the problem solution essay statement is like:
Nowadays many people have access to computers on a wide basis and a large number of children play computer games.
What are the negative impacts of playing computer games and what can be done to minimize the bad effects?
In this type of essay you have to discuss two points.
1. Problem faced due to playing computer games 2. Possible solution of problems faced due to computer games. You should discuss both points with reasons and its support and a relevant example, if you fail to discuss any of the above said points you will lose marks.
HOW TO STRUCTURE ANSWER FOR IELTS WRITING?
Now comes the structure of the answer for this you have to write essay in 4 paragraphs as follows:
1. Introduction
In this paragraph paraphrase the question and outline the sentence.
2. Body Paragraph 1 (Problems)
Introduction is followed by the body paragraph 1 in which you will state and explain the problem and the consequences of the issue which should be accompanied by an example
3. Body Paragraph 2 (Solutions)
In body paragraph 2 write the solution of the problem with an example.
4. Conclusion
In the last comes the conclusion part in which you should state the summary of the main point and advice for future.
COMMON MISTAKES
There are some mistakes that are committed commonly by the test takers like they get confused with the question or some of them have too many ideas relating to the topic and they try to go with everyone and don’t elaborate anyone of them. Some of them even don’t link the problem with the solution or don’t develop both sides of the argument equally.
The most common mistake is that the aspirants usually choose too many points and just pen them down without explaining them. You should pick one or two strong points and explain them with example. Sometimes, student just focuses on either problem or solution and write an unbalanced essay for which there scores declines.

– What are they?
– What expressions are used to introduce the problems?
– How are the problems illustrated further?
– What results are discussed for each problem?
– You only need two or three problems because you do not have too much time and you need to explain the problems in a stipulated time.
– When you brainstorm your ideas for problem solution essays, think about (a) what the problem is (b) how you will explain it (c) and what the effect is. Your paragraph should follow this pattern.
