How to write a conclusion in IELTS Writing Task 2

In IELTS Writing Task 2 is divided in 4 parts first is Introduction than comes the Body paragraph 1 followed by Body paragraph 2 than comes the last part Conclusion. All the sections play a vita role in giving your essay a proper structure but the conclusion is the most important part as conclusion is a standard way to end up your essay. At the same point it is very important because this is the last impression that you are giving the grader and reader and you want to make sure that you don’t confuse the reader as far as avoid errors in grammar and vocabulary. So, today we will discuss How to write a good conclusion in IELTS Writing Task 2.

So let’s talk about how to write the impressive conclusion. There are certain ways and elements to start your conclusion which you should add in it and should not be in it.

1. How to begin the conclusion

You should add few expressions in the beginning of conclusion like as to conclude, to sum up, in the final analysis, in summary and so on. You only need to know one of these and you can use the same one every single time. You don’t need to know all of them as these are the very common connectors for conclusion.  Some applicants try to use something different in their conclusion but I personally recommend, don’t do too much experiments in the conclusion. Till the end of the exam you are probably, running out of the time but it’s much better to utilize the last few minutes properly to complete the conclusion instead of thinking about connectors.

Moreover, some student uses finally, lastly to start the conclusion. It’s not the right way to begin the conclusion. These connectors are used in paragraphs such as firstly secondly, thirdly, finally or lastly so avoid using it in Conclusion.

2. Keep it short

Don’t write the conclusion too long two or three sentences are more than enough. If you go more than this you probably start to go off – topic. And you start introducing new idea. You should avoid that mistake in it. Try to make complex sentence in Conclusion.

3. Keep it simple

Don’t try to be creative and don’t try to add new thing which can effect on your task response. The conclusion is always boring because you have put your all energy and creativity in your body paragraphs. So try to be creative and energetic throughout the test.

4. Restate to the thesis

Don’t forget to say why you wrote the essay. Write it again by using the different words or phrases. Try to use unique way to rephrase your introduction in Conclusion. As a result, you avoid the repetition of words and lines.

5. Don’t add the new information

If you put some new ideas in conclusion then you can lose your bands because adding new point always weak your body paragraphs. So always avoid adding new information in conclusion.

6. Don’t use personal pronoun

I know some teachers suggest that give your opinion in Conclusion by using few words such as I believe that, according to my opinion, as my perspective and so on. I don’t say that it’s wrong. You can do it if you want but it’s a weak conclusion because you had a very good and strong arguments in body paragraph that examiner already read. It’s very clear that if you write about strong arguments in bodies then in your conclusion you just reinforcing ( support) that idea in Conclusion. So avoid that mistake.
