Gear – The equipment, clothes, etc. that you use to do a particular activity.

With protective gear on you can spar with a partner.

Gorp – a mixture of dried fruit and nuts, eaten as a healthy snack (= a small amount of food that is eaten between meals)

I like to carry Gorp for camping.

Hammock – a type of bed used especially outside, consisting of a net or long piece of strong cloth that you tie between two trees or poles so that it swings (= moves sideways through the air).

That night I lay again in the kitchen hammock with the lights out and everyone else asleep.

A hat is a covering for your head.

Hike – a long walk, especially in the countryside.

Lake – a large area of water surrounded by land and not connected to the sea except by rivers or streams.

We used to go boating on that lake.

Lantern – a light inside a container that has a handle for holding it or hanging it up, or the container itself.

To make a Halloween lantern, you first have to gouge out the inside of the pumpkin.

Map – a drawing of the earth’s surface, or part of that surface, showing the shape and position of different countries, political borders, natural features such as rivers and mountains, and artificial features such as roads and buildings.

I find the natural world endlessly fascinating.

Nature – all the animals, plants, rocks, etc. in the world and all the features, forces, and processes that happen or exist independently of people, such as the weather, the sea, mountains, the production of young animals or plants, and growth.

Habit is second nature.
