IELTS LISTENING (OVERVIEW)

IELTS listening test consist of 4 parts and total of 40 questions are there to answer. A audio clip is played which you can hear with the help of earphone that you get in the examination hall. Before each part you get some time to read the questions.

Write answers on question sheet

While listening the audio you should write the answers on the question paper as it will be easier for you to read and write on the same sheet. Moreover, extra time is given to copy your answers on answer sheet.

Properly utilize the time given between parts.

After every part some time is given to read the questions you should utilize it on the same and should not rush to copy the answers on the answer sheet as you will get 10 minutes for this at the end of the exam.

Just focus on content or information

Don’t try to look for any grammatical errors while writing the answer as you should rectify in the end of the exam while copying the answers.

Read the Instructions and Questions very Carefully

Instructions are very important to read as they tell you about the demand of the questions so it’s very important to read them carefully.

Check Spelling and Grammar

Keep in mind that your scores can be deducted for spelling and grammar mistakes so it is necessary to check them thoroughly.

IELTS READING (OVERVIEW)

IELTS reading test is of 60 minutes, in which three section with total of 40 questions of different types are given. If we calculate one get 1.5 minute to solve a question but it is suggested to utilize 1 minute on every question. The main question types are Match Headings, True False Not Given, Summary Completion and Sentence completion.

Write Answers on answer sheet- Like listening you will not get any extra time to copy your answers so you should directly write the answers on the answer sheet.

Skimming and Scanning-  As in reading test there are three long passages to read and if you try to read whole of them you will surely run out of time. So it is necessary to use skimming and scanning technique in this you should look at the paragraph and try to locate the answers and ignore the unwanted information.

Don’t panic if you see a new word- Don’t get stressed if you find a new word in the passage just try to know the meaning as per the sentence.

Read the instructions- Like in listening instructions here also play a vital role so it is very important to read them carefully.

Time Limit- Set a time limit for each section an ideal time is 18 minutes for each section. If you finish the section in this limit you will get 2-3 minutes to cross check your answer which can be very helpful.

Don’t leave any blanks

In IELTS there is no negative marking so it is highly recommended not to leave any answer unattended. If you don’t find answer go with guess work as sometime guesses are accurate.

Practice

All these tips and techniques cannot be implemented in a day for this you need a lot of practice so read passages on daily basis and try to implement the above given tips so that you can get familiar with them.
