4 Do’s to raise Your Listening Score

Aspirants often come saying that despite of focusing a lot and using several tips and tricks their score in IELTS listening is not increasing. They get worried about this so now let’s discuss 4 Do’s to raise Your Listening Score.

1. In IELTS listening the most important thing is to listen the recording carefully. You should listen not hear it as in hearing you just generally hear the audio but during listening you pay full attention to the clip and don’t miss even a small information. In the Listening test you have to read and listen at the same time. To make this function bit easier it is recommended to read the questions in the time given before the starting of each part. This will decrease distraction as the questions will be in your mind and there will be no need to read the whole question

2. Another important point I will like to discuss is that you should not panic if you don’t get the answer of two or three questions. Leave the question you don’t find and be ready to answer the upcoming one. If you get panic the chances of losing the information of other questions increase so it’s better to leave one or two questions instead of six or seven as you will get nervous. Here I would like to tell you that the exam is designed in a tricky way and sometime the candidate is not able to locate the answer. Moreover, if you are targeting for 7 bands and you answered 30 questions out if 40 you will get your desired score. On the other hand if your target is 8 or above than you need to answer all the questions as you cannot take the chance. For achieving 8+ you should be well prepared for every type of question. On the whole I want to say that don’t get panic and don’t let your nervousness come in the way of your success.

 3. In IELTS Listening test the part one is easy as compared to other parts. If you want to get good score in listening it is necessary to get all the answers correct of this part. You might be thinking that if this part is easy than how one can get the answers wrong? The answer for the question is the nervousness. Listening is the first module that appears in the exam than obviously part 1 is the first set of questions which the students have to face. In the beginning of the exam candidates feel nervous and even the students will great listening skills also get nervous and lose their marks. To cope up with this problem it is suggested to practice a lot and give mock tests.

4. A variety of question types appears in the exam but students feel problem facing the Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) they appear in the part 3 of the IELTS listening test. This question type is challenging for the students because of following reasons-

First of all, these question type is quite lengthy and it’s hard to read all the questions and options in the given time so one have to read and listen at the same time resulting distraction. The solution for this is that as part 1 and 2 are not lengthy so you should read the questions quickly and utilize the saved time in reading MCQs. Moreover, you can also utilize the time for reading the questions at the end of every part when you are told to look at the part already done to check the answers.

The second reason why MCQs are challenging for students is that as this question type has lot to read the students start re-reading the whole content while listening the audio. In this situation student thing that he is listening the audio but in actual he starts hearing it. You should not do this mistake and read the question before the audio clip starts.

Additional Tip – tick the option only when speaker stops talking about the question. Think which can be the right option and then go for it.
